If I lived in the Gulf Coast I wouldn't leave either lol. I don't know if I told you but I used to live near Gulf Shores, AL. I've lived in different parts of the country (originally from the Miami area) and by far my favorite place is the Gulf Coast.

I remember seeing that. I also remember how someone totally polluted your mind and made you an Auburn fan. I hope she was worth it, pal.

God knows I've got plenty of Q-tips at home; I think they're the vaper's best friend next to paper towels.

I can definitely see myself getting into rewicking/recoiling but for the moment, I'd like to try a quick fix. I noticed quite a bit of condensation in the drip tip when using the EVOD and I suspect this condensation could be part of the problem.

Right on top of the existing flavor wicks, or in place of them? Sorry that I'm having trouble following, I'm not really on my game today

The draw could stand to be a little tighter, actually. I've actually got one of the three airholes covered up with a label because it was just too airy as-is.

I like to use the last of a toilet paper roll (very absorbent, cheap)

haha I actually think when you see condensation it's functioning correctly

yeah, remove old & put your own flavor/supply wicks in (I use a big fat 3mm)

instead of "FLAVOR" wicks, think of them as "SUPPLY" wicks -- they store juice on top of the coil so
when it heats, the wick with the coil wrapped around it does not go dry

take the supply wicks out, then put the chimney back on and look at the GAP that is there now...
that is what you want to do -- fill that GAP up optimally (with cotton) so it 'wicks' good...
play with it, not too tight/not to airy :) (that's where perfection is between flooding/draw/gurgle)

After breaking off the end of an EVOD coil during an ill-conceived attempt to wash it in the sink at work, I undertook an emergency repair at my desk. Although the repair was not successful (there just wasn't enough wire left) I learned a lot about how these things are put together. I'm confident that recoiling/rewicking these heads is within my capabilities once I get the needed materials but for now, I'm glad the kit came with spares!

I haven't had a chance to delve too deeply into this but it seems that a 1/4" wide strip of cheesecloth, twisted up and laid on top of the existing wicks, may have provided a quick fix for the one EVOD that was driving me crazy. I've vaped through one-and-a-half fills with nary a gurgle or leak. The draw is quite a bit tighter, though, so if this fix works out I'll probably use a narrower piece of cheesecloth next time.

Any of you guys had problems with cotton wicks burning? As mentioned above, I just laid the "supplemental wick" on top of the (presumably) silica wicks that were already there. The thought of putting cotton in direct contact with the coil made me uneasy even though I know people do it.

I think the Number One rule of using cotton is that it has to be FULLY saturated before firing your device. I prime my cotton wicks before putting the center post back on, put the coil assembly on the tank, then let it sit for at least 20 minutes. I've never burned one.

As always, thanks for the input. I'm about to order some wick and wire to get started on my rebuilding journey. What diameters/gauges do you recommend for the EVOD?

No problem :) I'm using 32 gauge Kanthal from eBay (but I'm still pretty new at rebuilding myself and know others use other gauges as well)

Kanthal A1 Wire 32 Gauge 100 ft 0 25oz Resistance Resistor AWG A 1 | eBay

Also, if you want, check out my blog entry for some excellent step by step instructions (by ECF member Light Seeker) for rebuilding. I had to have them in writing when I started and they're a great guide to begin with. That 4-40 machine screw really makes the job easier!
