At 31 I have been smoking for 20 years. I have quit twice, once using Chantix and once cold turkey. Both times were about 6 months each, and both times it was easy at first but the longer I went, it actually got harder for me. Mostly because everyone around me smoked, and we would carry our conversations outside, and I would start up again. It's not the nicotine, but more the motions that bring me back. Today a co-worker/friend gave me a kit as long as I would try it out. I actually enjoy it, but it takes a little getting used to the difference between a cigarette and vaping. Right now I guess I am in the learning phase, since all the different lingo, abbreviations, and pairing between atomizers and batteries, ohms and all that gets a little confusing. Right now I am picking up all the information I can.

Thanks for having me.

You've already taken the first step...several times. You WANT to quit. Hopefully you will be like me and find it rather easy. I was a 40 year heavy smoker, but ecigs made quitting relatively painless...but I too was ready to quit. This forum help immensely with the technical details and the encouragement. Good luck, and don't be afraid to ask any question that come up.

Congrats and remember if you have any questions post them here. Most everyone is more than willing to help. And remember the only stupid question is the one that you don't ask.

I started with a little cig-a-like kit (same size as a cigarette), got obsessed, now have multiple mods (advanced personal vaping devices in which you can set the voltage or wattage), tanks, clearos, RDAs, RBAs (all different devices you put your eliquid in to get it vaporized - there will be test on what each one looks like later :) ) and DIY (Do It Yourself) my eliquid now. My monthly consumable costs (eliquid and coils) is now about $8.50 (compared to 1.5 PAD (pack a day) of $270.00 per month). Now I do have to fess up on spending about $350 in the last 40 days on equipment but my excuse is I suffer from OCV (Obsessive Compulsive Vaping)

and welcome to the ECF

Want to come down to my dungeon, I mean basement, and see my mods?

I smoked for 29 years and I easily quit for both of my pregnancies but eventually started back. I wasn't as physically addicted as I was psychologically addicted so NRTs didn't work for me. It took me a year & a half to find the right setup but I'm at day 15 analog free & I owe it all to lurking here for answers. What kind of setup did your friend give you?

Thanks!

He is a collector. He gave me an eGo-CTwist with a KangerTech Protank. He also gave me a couple juices. Showed me all the workings of it. He has been vaping for a few years, and has quite the collection, I hardly see him with the same set up as the previous day.

Oh great! Seems you got yourself a good headstart.

he sounds like a great friend ... tell him, a Provari might make quitting a little bit easier for you

Cheers and Happy New Year

Welcome, somdfisher! It's true that you've come to exactly the right place. The folks here are wonderful, and there is no question that cannot be asked and answered.

43 years of smoking for me, at 2-3 packs a day. 2 months quit now, once I made the decision and realized that vaping would be my solution to the hand-to-mouth habit. That, for me, more than the nicotine itself, was the reason I never before thought I could or would quit. I didn't want to gain weight from eating instead, and I knew how much the ritual of smoking was a big part of my addiction. Vaping takes care of that. And the juice flavors definitely help me with the otherwise-urge to munch.

Enjoy the process of learning and experimenting, it is BIG fun!

Welcome to ECF! I was a pack a day, to a pack and a half a day smoker when I started vaping 2 months ago. I don't even miss them. I am one of the lucky ones where the taste of cigarettes just became nasty to me after vaping for a while. I couldn't even finish smoking my last cigarette, and I was a pack a day smoker for 16 years.

Your friend set you up with a great set up, you're lucky to have someone to help you out. I was the first to start vaping out of my family and friends, so I've become their ecig tech support. All the research I do to help them out has cost me a pretty penny. Apparently, I've developed shinyitis, and if I see something pretty, I must buy it. Much better for me if I just stick to researching on this forum and I avoid the picture posts...

The second time I quit, I gained close to 50 pounds. Went from 195 to 240. Didn't help my wife was pregnant at the time so we had all sorts of goodies in the house to occupy my hands.
