looking for 5volt PT

Have a DSE 510, looking to hook it up and go 5volt via USB or if there is a cheaper/easier way. (direct hook up to my PC's front panel USB supply's how much?)

From what I understand I need a PT that lacks the in-line battery and then I read something about needing a USB to wall outlet device that supplies 2 Amps @ 5volts. Or does that also work with a Powered USB hub?


Is any of the above correct? Also can anybody link me to the needed devices for easy shopping? I had gone to bestbuy/walmart today and man do they ever forget to list the power rating/amps etc on USB adapter nowadays... so any info on where to get them (cheaper the better).

You are correct on all counts. I call these PTs "straight-wire PTs", and they do not have a batt box. Several vendors sell the. Here is one:

A PT, whether it is with an inline batt box or straight-wire, really should be powered separately from a computer motherboard. An external AC/5V USB converter is what I use. Powered USB hubs also work, but I've fried several ports that way. The PT takes a fair amount of current, and most ports, if they are not designed to handle higher current will in fact fry.

You can get cheap AC/5V USB converters from Deal Extreme, and they might be rated with the requisite 1 Amp (2Amps is better), but I've fried one of those too.

I got mine at radioshack. They have several to choose from, and some can vary the output voltage too. Mine will do several different voltages from 3 - 7.5V, and it is clearly built to last under serious load...but I payed $30 for it. You can probably get a 5V only one for $15 or so. With this stuff you do get what you pay for, so if you decide to go cheap, I would get a few of them, as they will likely not last.

Another source for a 510 direct USB passthrough is Electro-Nic-Stix. Since it is not specified as such, I assume that it also is not Joye (but fully compatible with Joye 510 atomizers). It may be the same BestEcig model as RMV's BE510 PT.
