I am a recent convert, I have no desire to smoke analogs anymore, since I started vaping last week. I have a Vapor 4 Life e cig and I've been extremly happy with it so far, I would just like to find a PV with a little more kick when I'm sitting back at home relaxing. I've been looking around and there are just SO MANY different mods out there I don't know where to start. I know I don't want anything huge or super complicated atleast to start off, and price is also an issue, nothing super expensive. If any of you wise PV Veterans could help out a newbie I would forever be in your debt.

Hi badfish!

"A little more kick" is all in wattage. You can get more wattage by either increasing voltage or decreasing ohms or both. There is a point to where too much wattage will start destroying flavor and atomizer/cartomizers but my range for my flavors is around 6.5W to 8.5W.

Currently, depending on the ohm ratings in your cartos you're probably vaping from 5-6 Watts.

A 3.7 volt battery and the lowest ohm atty/carto available - 1.5Ω will get you to 9.12 Watts. And there are atty/cartos that range up to 3.0Ω that would be good for the 3.7 volt batt - @4.5Watts. Any atty/carto with ohms higher than that - some go to 5.2 ohms - isn't a good fit for the 3.7 volt battery.

For a 5 volt mod, you want to stay around 2.8ohms (9 watts) to 4 ohms (6.25 watts).

For a 6 volt mod - @3.7 ohms (9.7 Watts) to 5.2 ohms (6.9 Watts).

[this using the Volts/ohms x Volts formula]

So for more kick you want something more than the @6 Watts that you're getting now.

Since it is for 'at home' - battery life and times between refills isn't as important as one you'd use while you're out. So a mod or PV that has a battery that lasts 12 hours wouldn't be necessary, nor would a bottom feeder with a 3ml bottle or a 5ml tank be necessary :)

My biggest hitting PV right now is a cisco 306 lr atty on an Riva SE battery and I use it for dripping with a drip tip. This produces the most vapor. It's a 1.5ohm atty on true 3.7v batt. producing 9.12 watts. And not all my flavors can take that much but Backwoods Brew 'applewood' does well on it. The thing with producing that much 'kick' is that the heat produced is not good for any cloth or filler material in a cartomizer. The burning that would occur would not taste good.

I've had many other mods - bartleby, protege, chameleon, wetbox, big brother, a few 5 volt mods and PTs that produce 5 volts. All of them except the Big Brother* and wetbox have given way to the eGo/Tornado/Riva). And currently I'm using the newer eGo-t tanks. The Riva - true 3.7 volt underload with an LR atty 1.7-1.8Ω tank atty will get @ 7.5-8 Watts. Even the regular ohm attys get @ 6.5 Watts. The batteries last long enough to where constantly charging isn't a problem and the tanks hold @ 1.5ml (A type) and 2.5ml (B type). No filler to burn.

And with the eGo style you can still use any 510 connection - cartos, the mega eGo attys and carts, mega eGo cartos, joye 510 cartos, the popular boge 2.0Ω carto, the lr atts for dripping and with an adapter, any other batt connection - KR8 cartos, 901, 801, etc.

*Big Brother - this is a variable voltage box mod - there are many variables out there - Buzz, Provari, etc. and these also would be good 'home' mods. Rather than varying the ohms of the attys or cartos, you're able to vary the voltage to get the wattage depending on the ohms of the atty/carto you have. You can run these anywhere from 3.0V to 6+V.

Sorry for all the math but when you want more kick you're talking in terms of wattage which requires it to fully grasp it.

To explore the land of mods, you might want to take a look at my Wonderful World of Mods guide in the ECF Library. Although the very newest (released in 2011) are not included, most currently available mods are and it provides parameters to use in deciding about the myriad choices.

However, IMO it is too early in your vaping career to get a mod. All it is is a big battery for the all-important atomizers/cartomizers and e-liquid, which you have not yet begun to explore.

In the Kr8 family (e.g., your V4L Vapor King), my favorite, by far, is the Bloog MaxX Fusion. A complete starter kit is rather pricey (e.g., 90 bucks for the Mini PCC Kit that I recommend). But you could test the waters with some MaxX Fusion cartomizers for your current V4L batts. [Of the prefilled flavors, 555 is my personal favorite. But don't get them if you don't like a nutty taste. Tip: The Menthol cartos are good, but taste like mint cream, not menthol.] They're only a few cents more than the WOW cartos.

Outside the skinny battery (e.g., Kr8) e-cigs – and for longer time between battery charges – I think Kent's suggestion of the Riva-510 Special Edition is an excellent (and very cost effective) one. 750 mAh (compared to your 280 mAh Kr8 batteries) and 3.7V (the same as your Kr8s and more than most fat batts). Liberty-Flights is selling them for $35. Kent has pointed out how many different atomizers and cartomizers are available for the eGo style (e.g., Riva-510).

All that talk about volts, ohms, and watts might be somewhat confusing. I attempted to clear away the mists of this techie stuff for the benefit of non-techies like me in this article. But you could start simply with the understanding that an "LR" atomizer or cartomizer on a fat batt like the Riva or on a 3.7V mod will give you more "kick" than a standard resistance atty/carto.

Whatever battery you settle on at this early stage – and even the atomizers or cartomizers you stick on it – your primary mission (and you have no choice but to accept it) is to explore the vast world of e-liquid. The good news is that there is so many choices (in flavors, mixers, and suppliers). The bad news is ... that there is so many choices (in flavors, mixers, and suppliers).:D [Ahh! Where do I start!] This chapter of my Wonderful World of Vaping might be helpful with that.
