Looking to try something a little more fancy but not too expensive

So I have been using an 808D since day one and over all it works well, is very reliable and batteries/cartos are well priced. However I want to try something different. What I'd like ultimately would be;
automatic,
provide vast amounts of vapour,
have a long lasting battery,
I'd consider a tank system but have never used one

Most importantly I'd like something reasonably priced (AKA cheap as possible) and available from a Canadian supplier. I have been looking for weeks now and I have to admit I just don't know enough about the hardware or vendors out there to hunt something down myself.

I got a 601 pipe for very cheap (perhaps too cheap) and while it worked it was AMAZING but after less than a month it began turning on randomly for no reason so I'll pay a little more for quality but finances are tight so no way I can afford to buy the latest "Flabersham 2000" that also doubles as an espresso maker for a "mere" $200+ :)

Thanks for any input!

Hi Freaknugget!

OK, so based on your fairly specific criteria...I think your best option is to get a Mega eGo (900 mAh). You can get manual eGos all over the place, usually with up to 1000 mAh nowadays. But the only Canadian vendor that I know of who still carries the autos is Happy Vaper in the GTA:

Happy Vaper - Joye Mega eGo 900 mAh Battery

The auto only comes in silver. Price is $27 - very affordable. The charger for it is $10. The wall plug adapter (which you plug the charger into) is $6.

The thing is that very few devices, apart from...starter newbie stuff... come with automatic action. The Mega eGo is the only reasonably long-lasting battery that I know of, that also comes as an auto. I actually bought one of these back when - it was my second model, after starting out with a few auto 510 batts. It seems like so long ago...mainly because it was, haha. That was just over a year ago! But it seems more distant than that...'cause I have a ProVari now & have had for most of this year.

:D

The point is today, I can tell you...and remember, I'm someone who strongly (and weirdly) resisted the move to a manual batt for a long time...you really should get a manual. It's inevitable that sooner or later you will, when you start looking at mods down the line etc...so there's no time like the present to embrace the button! The manual will give you a better hit, more control...and it's sealed. This means that you don't have to worry about a drop of juice leaking out of the connector end of your carto, into the batt's airhole & killing it. Manual batts are sealed, no hole. Once you try manual...all you'll think is "why didn't I get this sooner?"

---

OK so what else? The Mega eGo has a 510 threading. So whether you choose auto or manual...you can use 510 cartomizers or atomizers with it.

You can even use your KR808D-1 cartomizers that you already have, if you buy a 510-to-901 adapter. (The 808 & 901 threadings are identical...so that's why I said 510-to-901). Adapter screws onto the batt...carto or atty screws onto the adapter. They're like 4 bucks or less. Happy Vaper doesn't appear to have the adapter you'd need...but hey, we're all about helping here. So I'll do some digging...someone here has to have 'em. Probably a bunch of fellow vapers have some kicking around that they don't need. Worst case...if we can't find you one & you think you'd want it & use it...then I'll pick one up for you next time I order from a particular US vendor.

For 510 cartomizers...I recommend low-resistance (LR) Boges. You can get them from a number of vendors, but in your case I recommend Electro Vapors. They're a great vendor, and located in Alberta like yourself. So they should arrive quick. The price (which I believe has been adjusted as part of their current holiday sale) is $8 for a five-pak of empty cartos. Here's the link:

Electro Vapors - 510 Boge Low Resistance (2.0 ohm) Cartomizers

---

So yeah, I think that's all for now. Buying an eGo or a Mega eGo is something virtually every vaper has done at some point. It's a rite of passage! Some people remain happy with it for a long time. For others, it's a stepping stone on the way to something better. It's not gonna be the greatest e-cig you'll ever buy, or the model you adore for life, lol. But whatever it turns out to be for you...it's affordable, it's simple, it's available in Canada...and the battery life is as high as you're ever gonna find outside of a mod. You're coming straight from the KR808D-1 batts. So a Mega eGo should last you all day. Oh and recharge time is, in my experience, approximately 2 hours.

Hope that helps - and happy vaping!

Hi I suggest you think about getting a manual battery. Most of the time they give you a better hit than an auto. They are resistant to leaks. You can kill most auto batteries with juice spilling into them. The manual is sealed at the connection end. Echo is always a good unit. If you want to spend a bit more there is the e power, and for around $90.00 you can get a vv lava tube. Money is tight for most around this time of year. Good luck with your choice and I am sure it won't be your last one.

Thanks for the info. I know manual is sadly how I will eventually go but I'm a part time single parent who fixes computers when my kid is asleep both my hands ALWAYS seem to be busy and pushing a button is simply too taxing  unless anyone knows a good line on a robotic arm..... but thats for another forum :p

I already have an adapter so I can use up my stockpile of old 808D hardware so I can go with the ego and other 510 style threading. I'm thinking I might have been unlucky with the pipe (read many great reviews and duds DO happen) so maybe if I can score more 601 pipes at that price (I only paid $30 for the kit) I should just get as many as I can afford.

I really had hoped I had overlooked something but maybe you are right and since I am also strongly resisting manual stuff for now I shall have to take what I can get or fall back on my VERY dusty basic electronics skills and build my own.

Until we get a new advancement in battery technology, autos are either going to be too heavy to have sitting in your mouth comfortably or they won't be very long lasting. I suggest you look into getting a PCC (portable charging case) so that when 1 battery dies, you simply switch it out for your other battery and the dead one gets a charge while its in the box.

Best auto battery setup I've tried thus far has been the Kanger Horizontals on auto 510 batteries kit from CEV. Pair it with a 510 PCC case and you are good to go. Total price with the current sale on the PCC and the 10% off ECF coupon code puts you at about $82 before shipping, but you can get it even cheaper by doing the following:
Kanger Horizontal Coil Carto 5-pack x 1
510 Automatic Battery (180mAh) x 2
510 PCC x 1
Total price (after discounts and sales, before shipping): $61.90

Doing it the cheaper way means you don't get the 10mL of juice or the usual usb charger, but the PCC can act as your charger and if you are already set for juice then that is one more way to save some money.

I have tried manual and I *DO* see and understand the advantages BUT in my case the disadvantages of not having that danged 3rd hand cause too many issues.

I'm only fully off smokes for a month and for the first 3 weeks I was using a daily low dose patch (I was a heavy smoker and am highly addicted) Maybe when I no longer need the constant infusion of Nic I might be able to go manual but for now my PV is rarely out of my mouth.

So for now auto is the only way to go, I don't want to take any chance I fall back on a analog for the instant gratification it offers. It is simply not worth it but as any addict will tell you sometimes getting your fix matters more than anything else and for now if that means having an inferior auto hanging out of my mouth at every waking moment then I'll choose that over an analog!

Again thank you all for the help, at least I have a couple more options I didn't have before!

A KR808/Bloog passthrough (compatible with what you currently own), a 901-510 adapter and some LR Boge cartos or Kanger-h as someone suggested would probably take you a step up and be relatively cheap. If you do spend alot of time close to computers the passthrough could at least solve your battery problem. Automatic batteries aren't sealed, so a tank system is pretty much a disaster waiting to happen.

You could also send Macgyver an eGo battery with a head gear and some popsickle sticks to fix you a mouth activated contraption but that wouldn't be very "fancy" lol. Good luck.
