There is nobody to enforce it. The police have more important things to do.

It may wind up somewhat unenforced, but it's still an ordinance on the books. To be fully enforceable, the City of Los Angeles will have to put surveillance cameras in every toilet stall in every "public building" in the city, and then hire people (ex-TSA maybe?, foreign terrorists maybe?) to monitor those cameras. Joking aside, the minions of public safety can always use it as an extra "gotcha" if you're arrested for anything else.

How much money do they take in on cigarettes ?

That's part of why this nonsense passed. Truth be told, no city can effectively tax vaping: vapers will simply acquire their stuff outside city limits. And if you take as true the proposition that the alderoids have attained an emotional maturity equal to or less than their shoe sizes, then this is an example of "if we can't tax it, you can't do it — niener niener, nyah nyah."

Was there ever an opportunity to vaping Community to protest or make case against this?

Yes, there was. Please, people, let's pay more attention to the "Legislation News" and "CASAA" forums on this website.

As far as I know you can still smoke/vape in your car and your house. They're about the only places left. Under the new law I believe we can also go to a commercial vaper lounge and vape. Whoopee.

After 50 years of smoking a pack a day I started vaping on Dec 7, 2011. I have not had a cigarette in over 2 years. Not one. Does the government care? No.

In Los Angeles, smoking cigarettes is already banned almost everywhere where the public gathers. And where you are allowed to smoke you get dirty looks from the non-smokers passing by. In effect, the smoking/vaping restrictions here are close enough to be nearly a complete ban on smoking, and now vaping, in public. There are very few places left in L.A. where you can smoke, besides your car and your home.

I've got an answer for LA. I'll boycott their city. I suggest everyone else that may have considered a vacation there do the same.

Completely Average, I'm totally with you. My boycott list includes Boston, New York, Chicago, Evanston (IL) and now Los Angeles. I will do NO business with anyone living or doing business in any of those cities.

Yeah, this new law is about common courtesy. I can understand that. I don't see any doom and gloom about it. Carry on....

Agreed about the common courtesy however, these states and municipalities aren't interested in that. My guess is this is the first step to a cigarette style tax.

Absolutely. Everything is taxed. I used to pay like 30 bucks for a roll of Snus. Now it's an easy 80 bucks. It will happen with vaping. I just hope it won't be as harsh.

Wow, vaping in public a criminal activity. That's preposterous, but I can see it spreading across the country. Seems like proponents of vaping don't have a chance, and certainly no voice. Very sad news...

That's actually not true about not having a voice. We do have a voice. It's called CASAA. The problem is that too many vapers don't take the time to join, even though it is free to join. And even less will actually provide support for CASAA. From my perspective, if a vaper is not willing to join CASAA, they really have nothing to complain about when their ability to vape freely is taken away.

I can understand bans indoors but in a park is just ridiculous. Plus, a person using an vape device won't be dropping butts on the ground.

Once you agree with one ban, especially ones that have no scientific basis for being enacted, then you really have no basis to be upset with bans that spread to additional areas.

And while you're joining CASAA, also consider donating some of the bucks you've saved by vaping instead of smoking. The CASAA.org website makes it very easy to throw some funds over their transom.

Interesting !. You know if i were living in Los Angeles i'd test their resolve. I'd get myself arrested deliberately just so that i could take the case to the high court. I'd demand evidence of what harm vapour can cause people that receive it second hand. It would go on for a seriously long time and i'd involve the press. Vaping may well be illegal but they would have to prove exactly why and what harm vapour causes people second hand. Seeing as this ban is based on votes and not scientific evidence i figure i'd have a very strong case. Someone should take a stand!.

Laws exist for good reason. You can't exceed the speed limit because people can get killed in the process !. I'd love to hear what reasons they have to ban e cigs.

Oh, so vaping on a bench in the park or at the beach is not courteous. You are about the only one who understands it. And those who advocate not breaking the law in one location but advocate breaking it in another location are just being hypocritical.
