absinthe... and marlboro lights... my anti-depression.. ,
I would not recommend anti-depressants unless you become fully dysfunctional. I took them a few years ago for the same problem you are having. The pill was magic, and I instantly felt better. Unfortunately, if you don't want to stay on them forever, the magic comes at great cost. I wanted off them, so I started to wean myself from the Effexor. It is not possible to wean from Effexor. I went through six weeks of withdrawl hell: brain zaps, chronic insomnia, deep depression and anxiety.. Eventually, these went away, but not the 30 lbs I had gained while on Effexor. Years later, I am left with a diminished ability to feel pleasure. That's because the ... magic pill ZAPS the brain. Since doctors hand out anti-depressants like candy, I am horrified at what is going to happen to all those people after 20 years of addiction. Frankly, I would trust both the booze and the Marlboros before I would ever take another anti-depressant. Those pills should be prescribed only for people who are suicidal or needing hospitalization.

The guy my ex-fiancee left me for is slightly schizophrenic he also got head from a dog once, the only thing she must see in him is that he has a big ****.

(shrug)

I'm sorry. What the **** is that about. I can't figure out if you were just mentioning that you knew a guy that was schizophrenic, which if that was the case it almost sounds like you are saying that people with schizophrenia routinely do absurd and immoral things. Also there is no "slightly" schizophrenic. You either completely meet the diagnostic criteria established or you're just a sick **** (like that guy).

Please clarify, I know it's hard to get the context of a conversation when all you have are ......ed smiley faces and b & w text.

Possibly borderline personality disorder. And yes you are correct vaponator. When a person is in a psychosis brought on my the manic phase of bi-polar disorder. They can exhibit symptoms similar to schizophrenia. For example, You might believe everyone is out to get you or that you are a secret cia agent hot on the trail of a suspected terrorist.

I was just trying to stay in the conversation by saying i knew someone who is that way, whether he is a sick **** has nothing to do with the fact he has it.

I understand now. But yes, the fact that he is a sick **** has a lot to do with it. If he wasn't a sick **** then it would be rational to assume that he only does sick things because of the schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia tends to produce visual and auditory hallucinations with a dramatic impact on ones ability to function. There are I believe 5 sub-types of schizophrenia and as a I recall none of the symptoms involve participating in bestiality. Just my knowledge.

I know, I shouldn't get teed off but I've had a very rough time with the stigma surrounding schizophrenia. I've had people stop talking to me just because they found out. Nothing to do with anything I might of done. It's just the way the media portrays us that are afflicted.

Hey Mooby,

No-one holds it against you, it's just that serious mental illness is pretty much the last taboo in the western world, and people with conditions like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder face discrimination that is widely tolerated by a generally disinterested public.

In the UK there's a fantastic organisation called Time to Change which is making great inroads into changing public perception.

On schizophrenia, they have launched a video campaign - one of which you can watch below....

YouTube - Schizo the movie

Nico, sorry you're going through the mill at the moment, bud. Hang in there - things do get better over time.

I watched it and loved it. I wish the U.S. would pick up on that. To them here though if there's a stigma surrounding it, people will go straight to their doctor and then the doc will hand out antidepressants. Instead of people talking with friends and family about it and be able to make an informed decision. That was my problem, I would of never agreed to half the drugs if I knew there were other ways to cope.

Hey Nico -

What you are going through completely stinks. As one of those that has been cheated on but never been the cheater I completely feel your pain.

Although meds do have their place I would consider them to be a last resort. My honest suggestion, once you have had a few days to cool down, is to sit down and talk to her as much as you may not want too it will help.

My last relationship was 4.5 years and he was 6 years older than me. He was a complete and total jerk (even though i couldn't admit it at the time). He was mentally abusive and cheated on me more than once. We lived together for 2.5 years and one day i come home from work and he says "i'm moving back to my parents house" my whole world came tumbling down around me. I was sick to my stomach. I then found out that he had already started seeing someone else and she was pregnant. It took me three years to get over him.

All you can do is take it one day at a time. It may not seem like it but it will start to hurt less and less. Talk to your friends, talk to your family, talk to us - it will help.

Meds are not the answer. It's a fact that antidepressants are being over prescribed. People should just deal with **** on their own.

DO I speak from experience? Yes, I do. The 2 years that they "attempted" to treat my schizophrenia were far worse than the last year of dealing with it on my own.

I'm apparently doing o.k. I could always be better though. I have a wife, a beautiful baby girl, and reside in this realm of the imagination for most of the time.

yeah that's why i said in my post that maybe they're not for everyone.

i also have a friend that is paranoid schizophrenic with personality disorder, he functioned just fine as well.

thing is, no one truly knows what he did for those 4 years that he wasn't on medication, because all of his stories were lies upon lies of what he truly believed happened.

i'm not doctor, but do "antidepressants" treat delusions and schizophrenia? thought that was a different disorder.
