    Thank you @DavidOck

Today, I reflect on all the women and men in the military and especially all those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

My neighbor was one such hero, Charles Edwards Willbanks. "Eddie was wounded by mortars on the night of the 21st but rather than receiving medical attention he helped re-supply his army and carry other wounded soldiers to safety. He could have been flown out and attended to but he refused and as a result of this decision Eddie bled to death on the morning of the 22nd. Eddie was one of 376 Americans killed in and around Dak To in November 1967." He was barely 20 years old.

did I mention it was a grueling drive back .. ??
Did you drive straight through? That would be a grueling drive!! When we go near your area we stop for a night in Nashville, next day continue. Granted we we are going from Florida, not SC, but distance is probably about the same. Our drive to MA and back to get Rocket was also truly grueling. Just glad you are home safe and sound, got to do the trip, and sounds like you had a good time.

Coming June 8th, Amazon devices you own and your neighbors will be automatically be opt-in to Amazon Sidewalk without anybodies permission. This allows your neighbors to share your Internet connection and who knows what else. Amazon says it is nothing to worry about.

Here's just one 'link' of many if you google this on how to easily opt out using the Alexa app on your phone.

Nothing like making ID theft easier... or using someone else's network for nefarious purposes so they get the blame... automatic "opt in" isn't really a choice.

Meanwhile, summer continues here. Mid 80s for a couple days, but thankfully now the guess is lower than before. Too soon...

    Hola .. :)

Between the Memorial Day Weekend traffic, and at least 4 accidents that slowed things to a crawl, off-Interstate eateries being quite busy whenever I wanted to get a bite, at least 5 additional hours were added to the trip back ..

No, I did stay a night in Nashville, although I had planned on driving straight through, that ended up just not being in the cards ..

I knew I should have left Myrtle Beach mid-last week, but, spending time with my Aunt and my Cousins and their wives proved to be so delightful and fulfilling I went against my better judgement and stayed a bit longer ..

In the end, it was worth it .. however, in the future, I may seriously consider Amtrak or airplane .. there were times I felt like I needed somebody to pry me out of the truck ..

I'd not done any sort of Road Trip since pre-Covid and, generally, even then, it would be a drive to Memphis, Nashville or Chicago .. these old bones have gotten pretty creaky and don't even ask me about my back .. .. good thing I packed a TENS unit ..

This is just another reason for me to avoid these so-called Voice devices .. and, continue with any and all ISP connected devices thru CAT6 Cable and no WiFi ..

Wow, your trip back really was brutal! I'm glad you didn't push it and stopped in Nashville instead. It's so great to hear that you had such an enjoyable trip visiting with all your new found relatives. Now you have a whole bunch of new memories to keep you company! Pictures please!!

Same with us. We have our in house secured network (DSL for connection - it is slow and spotty sometimes, but it's all we have available). No Echo or Alexa for us old techies.

So glad you had a great time Willie! I agree with David, we need pictures so we can all share the joy!!

I can’t see anything good or necessary resulting from this. Some hacker will surely figure out how to abuse it.

In the info below they make it sound so nice and sweet…and I want to support my neighbors' devices why? I’m glad we don’t own any Amazon devices.

    Morning, all.

Yeah, if Amazon has been testing that, it's probably already hacked....

Some time back, unasked, we got sent a new "voice remote" for our satellite. Still haven't put batteries in it, and no plans to do so. Nope, don't need AZ or anyone listening in on us.... :grr:

Our wifi is locked down, doesn't even broadcast it's name, although of course sniffers can see there's one there. But they still need a network name and password (and yes, the Admin name and PW have been changed from factory default.) Then toss in our rural setting - anyone close enough to use is is parked in my driveway, a bit of a tip off

    Hola .. :)

As I was attempting to mow down the jungle that is my yard, I pondered ::

It almost makes me wish I had waited to get vaccinated .. at this stage of the game, incentives seem to be cropping up left and right .. sweepstakes, vacations, free Six Flags tickets, fishing and hunting licenses, daily drawings for money, free State Park tickets ..

Well, no .. not really .. ;) .. it should not require an incentive in order to do the right thing ..

Yes! I agree! I can't believe the incentives that are being offered. (Makes me wonder why we struggled to pay off 2 college tuitions for our two kids) I never hesitated a moment to get vaccinated ourselves, but I am concerned about vaccinating our 2-5 year olds. Just recently read that young children showed no antibodies evident after being vaccinated. Huh? Do they really know enough about long term effects yet and if children only have such mild cases is it really necessary to vaccinate them against covid?

    Morning, loungers.

Heat wave is scheduled to abate some today, more as we move to the weekend. Could really use some of our "typical" June gloom about now...

Yes, absurd to "need" incentives for vaccinations. You'd think staying alive would be enough. But if your State is doing that, check it out, they may include those already vaccinated. Seems our governor is going to announce later today some sort of incentive as well, we'll see. But with your vaccination card you CAN get a free glazed donut daily for the rest of the year, iirc, at Krispy Kreme :)
