Seems they've been doing whatever they're doing for a long time.
Those old threads only need Storage Space on Hard Drives. Since they are hardly ever accessed, they shouldn't slow things down much, if at all. I think it's more Server problems and maybe issues with ECF's Internet Bandwidth from their ISP. Maybe more the latter, because it seems to effect different areas of the country at different times, and sometimes more globally.
Clearly, if smaller threads of 15,000 posts or less really helped, we wouldn't still be having these issues.
