So, I got a steam turbine clone & a vamo .. no matter how I build the coil, I get 0.1 to 0.5 MAX ohm reading. Tried 5 times, the last build looks good, steel mesh is properly oxidized, the coil is evenly wrapped with 4 wraps. I get 0.5 ohm reading. What could be the problem?

Check to make sure that you don't have the leads crossed, or that you've snipped the ends close and they aren't touching where they shouldn't?

DOn't know what gauge, the wire & mesh came with the atty from fasttech. Everything else is fine, I triple checked it. Could be the gauge of the wire, that 4 - 5 wraps is not enough? I wrapped it ~8 - 9 times, still showed 0. resistance, not even above 1.
Without knowing your background or experience level, I'll ask...have you check your meter? Check the ohms on something with a known resistance, like a good coil you already have.
Did you torch the mesh? Maybe the coil is shorting on it?
Can you measure the diameter of the wire? (If no caliper, don't bother
Yardstick isn't fine enough.)
Maybe check the resistance on the whole spool/coil of Kanthal to see if it's really Kanthal?
