LRs and eGo Batteries

I ran into the following disclaimer from MadVapes website, while looking at an LR atomizer:

"These are not recommended for use on devices with a voltage higher than 3.7 volts and are not recommended for use with eGo, 016 batteries, regular e-cig batteries or any mosfet driven style battery. Use with larger battery capacity mods."

Ok, this brings forth a bunch of questions as I dont have a degree on electrical engineering or something like that...

Why is it not recommended on an eGo battery? (I would like to understand the reason, so I know which batts to avoid)

Also, how do I know which batteries are mosfet driven? What is a mosfet in the first place?

Which batteries are "safer" to use with LRs?

Does this apply to LR Cartos as well?

How about Dual coils?

I know they are alot of questions, and I might sound kinda dumb. Ive tried to look for these answers in the forums and still havent find them.

I use the Lr ego-t atty's (1.7 or 1.8 ohm), dual coil (1.5 ohm), the ego mega dual coil cartos (from Madvapes no less), ccv's 1.7 ohm cartos, boge Lr cartos on my ego batteries all the time with NO issues. Why would they make an ego-t Lr or mega ego dual coils if you couldn't use them with their batteries? I think this is an urban legend. I think they added this disclaimer before Lr was widely tested to cover their a**s. If someone has actually had a real, first hand safety issues using Lr products on an ego battery, now is the time to speak up! :)

Why do they make LRs for the eGo? To sell more batteries.

The current draw of LRs is between 2.5 and 2.6A which most commercial batteries cannot deliver. Yes many folks have been using them but do so knowing their batteries will not last as long.

LRs were meant to be used on IMR batts which are capable of delivering the req'd current without stressing the battery.

Another point is that "LR" term is not specific enough. For example, most of the reports of issues have been with 1.5 ohm stuff. Now, it may be, that the 2.0 ohm stuff (still LR range IMO) is OK. So you have to be specific as to ohm rating. Also, what about 1.8?????? Who knows. Vaping style seems to be a factor too. The more you "chain vape", the faster you heat it up. It's the over heating due to over-amping that kills the mosfet.

People that have not researched this seem to be spreading the (false) rumor that it's an urban legend... just to hope that it all works out OK. It's not an urbal legend. Resellers, like MV for example, were getting a lot of returns of dead batteries (actually fried mosfets in the batteries/power supply unit). YMMV tho. And there could be a design change on the eGo type units that we don't even see. Maybe it's mostly historical issues now. But they were real, IMO.

Im hoping not to sound completely ......ed, but what is a "mosfet"?

Electronic gadget... part of the "circuitry"... as compared to the battery itself. Both are wrapped together in what we call the "e-cig battery" ... actually a whole power supply, with connector, LiIon battery, button, circuitry, and LED/lights all in a nice enclosure.

A power mosfet is used to allow high current to pass by a low-current button.... more or less.

Just to reitterate....

You have to name the ohms, and you should check with a multimeter if at all possible.

For example, most of the Dual-Coils (DCs) are 1.6-1.7 ohms. The low LR's are 1.5 ohms. Some are higher. So unless we talk specifics, who knows......

Anyway, the DC's are a little be easier on the battery (by .1 ohms) than are LRs....

The lowest resistance cartomizer that I enjoy using on the 3.2V eGo is the 1.7 ohm Smok Tech Single Coil, which would produce 1.9 amps current. Pushing the envelope perhaps, but it may explain why I've not (yet, at least) had any problems.

'mosfet' is a cute little mouse-like creature living in your fat batt's switch. It is allergic to the evil High Amps gremlin associated with LR attys and cartos.*
* There also is this boring technical definition of 'mosfet': metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor [I told you that it was boring and technical;-)] – used for amplifying or switching electronic signals. In addition, there are those who claim that 'amps' are not gremlin, but a measure of electrical current. All agree that too many amps are unhealthy for mosfet.​

You are a pretty savy man so it hurts the offer a rebuttal on your post. Yes at 3.2 your data is correct, but 3.2 is trhe avg the batt pulse from 3.7 -3.0 which is 2.2A at 3.7, quite negligible but it will stress the batt somewhat. You are barely getting away with it with a 1000mAh batt and not even on the ball field with a 650mAH.

Folks I support RIMP's comment it is called risk management. He is willing to accept shorter life for Nirvana and I am cool with that. I doubt however he will get 16 months out of a 650 eGo batt. The odds are against him.

I see folks day in and day out I haven't had a problem in the 3 months that I have been vaping this set up. Come back and claim the same in a year.

Well, an eGo batt is what, $25? I think $25 every, i dont know, every 6 months in exchange for a way better vaping experience is kinda worth it. I still havent vaped on LR (they are on their way), but for all Ive read, I think im going to take the risk.

The name of the game is that it's your conscious decision.
There is also variability due to engineering margins and production runs, how much extra a given mosfet will really take before dying.

Don't blame the battery vendor if you happen to have a battery that does die fairly early, that is pretty much all that can be asked.

I've known of standard ego and riva batteries dying, people I respect have had failures. They knew what they were doing, that it was stressing the batteries, so had no complaints.

If you really like higher power, there are mods using high drain batteries specifically designed to run at higher current. Otherwise no biggie, you just may need to replace parts a bit more often.
