I have been doing some of both in my 6 weeks, but moving more and more to mouth inhaling. I have been finding I get more flavor with mouth (duh) and also with a tighter air flow however that works. I have what I assume was an unintended feature of being able to adjust air flow by how tight I screw protank 2s down on my provari mini.

I get a better th from drawing directly into my lungs. Most of the time i don't really need to do it, but my AGA T2 is the kind of tank that requires me to draw straight to my lungs for some reason, i don't know why but it just seems to work much better, as opposed to it not really working well enough otherwise, although it can depend on the flavour liquid i'm using too. Or another example is when i started vaping, using cigalikes, i wouldn't get any satisfaction drawing normally so direct lung draws were the only way i could get a decent th. So yeah a nice long draw directly into my lungs does the trick everytime.:vapor:..:).

I'm totally blown away by the number of people on this thread that said that they used to mouth hit analogs.
I'm an older guy, let's say 50+. I've known, met and seen thousands of people smoking analogs over the years.
In all my years, I've never seen one of those smokers do a mouth hit, usually a massive deep lung inhale,
especially on the first few drags. Molecules from tobacco get absorbed much faster in the lungs.

I can understand taking mouth hits on strong cigar tobacco. Ever inhaled a cigar four to five times in a row?
Better be sitting down.

Well, I'm not that old a dog. I learn something new everyday. Mouth vape, lung vape, nasal vape; as long
as we're vaping. Vape on, my friends.... Ed

Analog smoking: Mouth hit

When I first started vaping it was on a 510 and using mouth hits, then moved to carto tanks. with carto tanks I could be satisfied with mouth hits or smaller lung hits. (depending on the draw of the carto)

I have since given up on cartos all together due to inconsistent carto manufactures (thanks Boge)

Then I switched to Protank 2 and lung hits are better with this unit as it has airy draw then my cartos did.

Now I have almost retired my Provari completely and have switched to Mech Mods with RDA's. With an RDA IMO you don't even want to try a mouth hit. Lung hits all the way!

Basically... your vaping style is greatly dependent on what hardware you are vaping with and they all give different experiences.

I think your definition of a mouth hit is different than other opinions.

mouth hit = drawing vapor or smoke to only the capacity of your mouth then inhale to your lungs (not to inhale only in your mouth and blow out)

Lung hit = like hitting a joint, sucking in vapor/smoke by the lungs reaching the entire capacity of you lungs with vapor/smoke.

I only met one person my life that ever lung hit a cigarette, when I'd see him smoke a cig like that it made me want to puke.

I used to smoke two packs of newports a day for maybe 8 years. I always hit to my mouth first. I could never feel the "hit" when I did a direct lung inhale by breathing through my nose while drawing. I still do a mouth inhale now and im glad I do because, it gives a better throat hit if you let it build up and its better for tasting the flavor in my opinion.

I smoked Marlboro Reds for a little over 10 years and not once did I lung inhale. I always drew to my mouth then inhaled into the lungs. I used to pack my cigarettes, meaning tap them by the .... multiple times and let the tobacco settle in nice and tight, packed tightly. I liekd them with the tighter draw.

The only substance I lung inhale straight up is the funny stuff :)

What at nic content do you use? I'm asking coz I'm a really heavy chain smoker.. So far not sure if I chain vaped what's the best mix (flavour + nicotine content) and or does it matter?
Most liquids in the house are in the 12-18mg range. Some higher because trial and error has taken us there to get a satisfactory throat hit, or better maintains a "therapeutic nicotine level" when we vape (some flavors encourage frequent and even chain vaping, and so a high nic concentration would be "too much").

I've found that for my wife and I, just about everything related to vaping is on a sliding scale of personal taste and satisfaction, and so we both "play around" with those variables (me more than she) in order to find our personal "sweet spot".

Great discussion! Thanks for all the information.

I've smoked analogs for the better part of 30years and never really thought about if I was lung or mouth inhaling. Now that I think back, I must have been mouth inhaling. While vaping it seems I lung inhale. If I mouth inhale, it doesn't feel like a get a good amount of vapor otherwise. Mouth inhaling feels odd while vaping. Not sure why this is. Might be a reason why my voltage levels were lower than most of the settings I've seen mentioned on the forums here.

Now that I've read this article, I'm trying to mouth inhale again. Experiment, experiment, experiment :)

I generally mouth inhale. My technique involves drawing a mouthful and then quickly inhaling it into my lungs while immediately beginning another mouth draw. As I draw the second mouthful, I exhale the first hit though my nose. Finally, I inhale the second mouthful into my lungs and exhale to complete the vape. Generally my SVD times out just as I complete my second mouth inhale. I find this technique delivers maximum flavor and is very satisfying.

This is generally the method I use. I had never even considered (or heard of) a direct lung hit until I started vaping.

After a day of mouth inhaling on my PV, I'm so happy I made the effort to "convert". It seems many of the coil problems I was having with the Kanger PT II were because I was essentially "dry vaping" with my inappropriate lung inhale method. I now see the occasional air bubble coming up from the wick every 3-4 uses. Flavor of my ejuice is much more complex and full!

Thank you everyone for all the advice!

here & now
Apologies for the noob & probably silly question. I've started vaping only recently & notice I get more satisfaction exhaling from my nose rather than from my mouth so I was wondering if it's just me or there's some explanation for it. I read that nicotine absorbs better via the mouth & nose as compared to the lungs. Is there any difference in absorption rate between the nose & the mouth?

You should try smoking by direct lung inhaling without sealing your lips round it, then you'd know why people don't do it !.
