Lori, I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I sure understand the emotional dilemma.
As far as not having kids, I don't think it's selfish at all and am puzzled that anyone would perceive it that way. Of course, I tend to think lots of people have children for selfish reasons.
Besides, it would be sad if you'd had kids and ended up in jail because they were mouthy. 
I don't do mouthy kids well either. Mine tried being obnoxious once or twice. It didn't get them far. 
I have to brag on my son a bit. He was nominated for and was awarded the Citizen of the Year Award for our county when he was 17. He's the youngest to ever receive it. Pretty cool!
The only problem we really ever had with him was his driving. OMGOSH. His name is on every single gray hair on my head.
Aaron, I really liked the 'cartoon' and what you had to say about liking it when people are comfortable enough to share their emotional struggles and the tough things we go through in life. No one makes it out of here without experiencing some rough times and it sure lightens the load if we have others we can share with.

Hi Smoky! It is most definitely Monday!
We're having 'family dinner' here tonight, so I won't be doing a whole lot of 'work'. I'll be cleaning and cooking. 'Work' is more restful. But, I love having my kids/grandkids together, so it's worth it. I really just need to go through the house and put away things that I don't want little ones getting into. Like a gallon of resin and a bunch of containers of glitter. Little girls love glitter. 
It's been said that glitter is the herpes of the craft world. Sooo true.

Fortunately Doug didn't do a whole lot of flip-flopping. We sure didn't always agree with what should be a yes or no, but he was pretty good at sticking with the no's when they were dished out. lolHi ya Katie
The day before my sons 15 birthday, he waited until his dad was in the shower (I was still asleep), got the keys and took our car for a little drive (just up the road a couple hundred feet) where he did donuts in a parking area... and was caught by a deputy sheriff.
That delayed him getting his learners permit for a year. Because I said so. Once he got his license he bought an old police car from a neighbor... it was cheap. He spray painted over the emblems on the sides and was good to go. HA! The emblems still showed when the light hit them just right. Which made for some fun (for him) and some interesting situations. Situations I can mostly laugh about now.
He and his best friend were known to go park on side streets and point shoes at people (like radar guns.) They liked the power of making people hit their breaks and slow down.
Then there was the day that he burned rubber making a left turn at an intersection. Well.. there was an officer at the intersection, saw how fast he was going and thought it was another officer and he must be in pursuit of someone... so he joined the pursuit. When it dawned on him that there was no light bar on my sons car, he got mad. Really mad. He pulled my son over, cuffed him and hauled him off to jail. However, by the time they got there, the officer had cooled off and had figured out that my son wasn't a bad guy and he grudgingly liked him.. a lot. He still had to take him in, but instead of locking the poor kid up, all the officers decided they really liked this kid, so they took him behind the counter and swapped stories with him... and they wanted to know how he got the car to peel out like that because they'd never been able to make theirs do it.
And there are more stories. Too many!
Of course you can brag on your son! That's fabulous! Good for him and good for you proud mama!!
