Yikes! I know exactly how he feels and it ain't good ... tell him we all feel for him!
I was clearing brush from the property one day and grabbed a semi-large branch that was laying on the ground, the next thing I know I'm getting stung repeatedly ... I take off running and after about 200 or so yards I stopped to catch my breath, not even 30 seconds later, I'm getting stung AGAIN! Those buggers followed me the entire way! I ended up with more than 2 dozen stings including one right on my lip which caused it to swell up hideously ... didn't feel good either.
Apparently that branch was partially covering a yellow jacket nest and they did not appreciate me removing it. Initially I wanted to fry those $#%$#% but eventually I cooled off and realized that they were only responding to what they perceived as a
threat. So I waited until winter when I was sure they were gone and I collapsed the tunnel to their nest so they wouldn't be able to re-use it later on.
It reminded me that when you are out in the woods, you need to stay alert and be aware of your surroundings. Of course, that's probably true of just about any environment outside the home too right?
