Made the jump to RBA clones- the Kayfun Black Edition! Forgot to buy wick/coil... Help?

Hey guys, rba n00b here-

Made the jump from a Protank to this kayfun Black Edition clone. I must say it looks pretty cool, and I'm ready to start down the path of RBAs!

I purchased off eBay, and stupidly assumed it came with some silica/kanthal (like other clones I had seen do). Needless to say, it doesn't.

So, I need to have a grocery list of what I should be getting. I've searched around a little bit, but I'm not exactly sure what the difference between the width of the kanthal means except resistance, and I am not sure the benefits of Eko wool vs silica.

Basically, I just need a quick primer on buyer's guide so I can start building coils, because I've watched videos and I'm antzy to use my new toy!

I have a Vamo V2 as an FYI, and an.. analog multimeter?? Should I invest in a digital one? What's that nice one with the red LED display that I see people using a lot? What ohm resistance should I be shooting for/how many wraps should I make with the coil for the best vape? (I know everybody has their own opinion on the matter, but I'm open to suggestions!)

I am thinking 100' of kanthal 28 gauge and like 6ft of Eko Wool? Will that be suitable for my needs, or should I get a different gauge? Also, how necessary is the torch? I have butane lighters- they're basically equivalent, yes, albeit more time consuming to heat the wire?

Thanks in advance, and any other tips or videos you can point me to that would be helpful are much appreciated!

I would go with his advice^^ and second the cotton over anything else for wick. The flavor just seems cleaner and the vapor thickness seems better aswell. With silica and ekowool I can taste them. With cotton I only get great flavor. Plus you can get a bag of organic cotton for about 6$ that will last month's vs. Having to order more wick online. The biggest thing with wire gauge is the resistance per inch. Bigger gauge, lower ohm. Vice versa. The 32 g. Kanthal has a bit of a sharper taste and the 28 g. Has more surface area so imo, more vapor that's a fuller vape.
Hope that helps!?

Well, firstly, Ωs are a preference in most cases - as is the diameter of coil, whether it is 'contact', etc., and your wicking material. That said, experimenting is fun!

So I won't make any of these suggestions, and instead suggest that you watch some YouTube videos for rebuilding the Kayfun - there are tons of them! Reviewers usually state their wire gauge and you can see their wrapping method, and their wicking method, etc. It should give you a good idea.

I use a 1/16th drill bit for a mandrel, 32 gauge Kanthal, cotton wick. Get about 1.8 ohms with five wraps. There is an extensive thread about micro coils in the rebuildable forum (900 plus posts) that is truly excellent. That little black ohm reader works well for twenty bucks and also gives you a nice stable platform to install your coils onto your topper too!
