I'm going to give you a different kind of review than you're used to. Instead of breaking down the mod and going through pros and cons, I'm going to tell you one thing about it, explain why I believe it, and make a short comment. Then I'll end with a final word about the RS.

The Rough Stack V2 is the most durable tube mod to be found - bar none - period - exclamation mark

I thought that before, but now it isn't just assuming, it's true fact to me and here's what made me believe:

I helped a friend with his cattle the other day. We polled horns, gave inoculations, replaced faded or damaged ear tags, and branded some yearlings that were missed last year because they were pastured elsewhere for a while. Anyone who has ever done this will tell you this is physical and rough work. Even the most experienced cowboys come away from a day of this with a few bruises.

I was knocked down a couple of times. I was smashed between the split rail fence and a yearling steer a couple of times. I got kicked and nicked pretty much all day long. - My rough stack was in my jeans pocket all day and survived some serious abuse.

I vaped for a few minutes on the tailgate of the pickup before we headed back to the house. I got distracted by making sure some of the gear was tied down and I left my RS on the tailgate when I got in the truck. At about 40 mph I check the rear view and see my RS bouncing through the grass in the ditch behind us. I stopped, backed up, got out, found it, picked it up, looked it over. The only thing seriously wrong with it was that I lost the drip tip.

I drove to the ranch house with my friend. It's a big old farm house with 2 full stories and a converted attic. We went up to the converted attic where there's a small TV room and a nice deck built out over the 2nd story roof. We went out on the deck to have a beer and sit in the rocking chairs. I was enjoying my beer and having a vape. I set my RS on the railing and got up to go get another beer when I knocked my RS off the railing where it banged off the 2nd story roof and then fell about 25 feet to the ground.

I went outside, found it, picked it up, and vaped it right there. It got a pretty good scratch from either the roof or the ground, but I'm pretty sure I could buff it out if I wanted to spend the time trying.

My ride showed up and I dug out a fresh carto. I relaxed in the passenger seat happily vaping away through the 90 minute ride home.

That's why I believe I can count on my RS. If it can take a day like that and come away with nothing but a couple of scratches and maybe a ding, then it is a well designed piece of equipment made from durable parts.

My Short Comment: I think the next time I see someone comparing the RS to some fancier mod and saying that the fancier mod is better constructed some how or has the mystical "build quality" that the RS supposedly doesn't possess, I'm going to set them straight.

I know the RS isn't the end all be all PV for every tube mod user. Lots of people want something more fashionable or something that has a precision finish, or something of a specific size or build material. Some people need different functionality with a button not so close to the connector...etc. etc. If you're someone with an active lifestyle where situations at work or play might ever put your PV at risk, you won't find anything else that can do a better job of taking a beating and continuing to function. Anyone who engages in any rough physical activities at work or play should really consider owning a rough stack.

Can't believe nobody has chimed in on this yet. I'm going on about 3 months with my Maxi and couldn't be happier with it. So far I haven't found anything about it that I don't like.

A few weeks ago I got it in my head that I needed a "sexier" mod for kickin back at home or going out and started to look all over at every popular mod out there. Every single one had some issue or potential issue with it in regards to how I roll. Be it not being able to run the dualies I like or problems other folks have reported with certain mods or the fact that some of these things cost an arm and a leg. After a few weeks it dawned on me that I already have a great mod....and for sexier I might just have to snag me one of those purple ones.

I think I have this "gotta get a new mod" itch out of my system....you know....except for that "gotta get a purple RS" itch.

I'll probably end up collecting all the colors. I received a black sparkle maxi today and the finish is very well done. I think I'm going to get a red one for work. I set my PV down and can't remember where all the time, and I work where there's miles and miles of copper, steel, aluminum, and PVC pipe, so losing a silver tube is not much different than the proverbial needle in a hay stack.. Bright red might stand out enough for me to find it easier :)

I've been really happy with my rough stacks. They suit my lifestyle really well and they fit my hand like they were custom made just for me. - I own some other tube mods. I have the gold rush and the blue lightening acrylic tubes, and I have a copper around here somewhere. The acrylic tubes aren't suited to the extreme cold temperatures I live in a few months out of the year nor would they hold up to a day like the one I described above. The copper is a great tube mod, but I've broken the switch at least three times. The guy who made it for me said he ordered an elevator button to put in it the next time I break it. I'm tough on my gear.

I own a few PVs. They all have their place and most of them do get used, but when I leave the house, the RS is with me. I know I can count on it. I know I can trust it to get me through the day.

I will admit that there are a couple of others on my radar. If I decide I have to have something that looks fancy but has the same functionality as the RS (and even expanded functionality), I've been eying the megalodon. Mostly because I like the new endcap version. It naively accepts eGo mega and eGo tank attys and uses the same batts the RS uses... But I could own two more RS and buy a spare eGo battery and maybe a box or two of cartos for the same money.

The other tube mod on my radar is the new buzz pro, but not for the same reason anyone else might have. I haven't been drinking the VV coolaid yet. I'm not excited about VV at all, really. Buzzkill said something to another vendor in the general forum one day that impressed me so much that I promised myself I'd do some business with him. He just doesn't happen to sell the kinds of things I normally buy, but he deserves a chunk of my vaping budget one of these days just for making another vendor face reality about a failed device he was still trying to move out of inventory and in to unsuspecting hands of inexperienced vapers. It was a class move on buzzkills part and I won't forget it.

Anyway: In the near future, I'm going to add a red maxi and a flat black short body (the flat black short body will probably have a 306 on it 24/7 - I like the fact it completely fits inside my hand). I've actually become a fan. And madvapes has treated me really, really well.

That black sparkle is pretty sweet. The Buzz Pro would/might be near the top of my list if the new mod fever catches me again, but after really thinking about it I realistically decided that on a vv I would more than likely end up with it set at 1 spot and that spot would probably be around 5 volts. Don't know...that might change in the future but deciding that I already own a great mod has had a calming effect on me....and my wallet.

And madvapes does rock. I ordered from them on thur. the 16th as well as with 2 other vendors. It was late so in effect it was fri. the 17th. Monday my Madvapes order hits my door....the other 2 didn't ship till monday. That has been par for the course with Madvapes and one of the main reasons I use them as my go-to. Plus ..the dk-tab I received today is very good.

Hell yeah man. I guess I'm on the roughstack bandwagon. It's the one pv I would take over any of my others if it came down to it. It can do pretty much anything my vv mods can just with a little less variable. The price is just ... what mods should cost. All this $200 stuff is crazy. (although I do have a provari. couldn't help myself) Glad to know I could be a cowboy with my RS. Don't think I will try though. Good review.

I have a maxi and friggin' love it! The price is right, it fits my hand, and I really don't care if I drop, nick, scratch, or otherwise bang it up...it's just that kind of device! I still can't see why anyone would pay 100 bucks or more when this thing was 45!

I just ordered some dual coil cartos. Anyone tried these on a maxi 3.7v set up yet?

Wish I had read this review sooner. I snagged a VV Monkeyboxx, and wasn't all that impressed with it. Ended up selling it for a loss of the price of shipping. I was honestly more satisfied with my eGo batteries, and 2.5ohm cartomizers.

I just need to decide which cartos I want to get.
Have been using the 510 XL E2 R4 Cartomizers, 2.4-2.6 ohm,
and love them, will probably get another package of these, and order everything that comes in the kit with the cartos in place of the atomizers.

I just got a roughstack, was so looking foward to it. But it doesn't seem to be hitting very strongly. I can't believe it won't hit as strong as my V4L manual kr808, but that seems to be the case. When I first got it, I didn't see the polarity +/- & may have put it in backwards. Could I have hurt the battery doing that? I put it on the charger & it shows green as if it's fully charged, but it's just hitting rather weakly :( I want to love this thing!!

You haven't mentioned what carto/atty you are using and at what ohms, or what battery you are using. Someone might be able to help you out with a little more information.

Thanks Six, I figured I probably didn't provide enough info, but wasnt sure! I bought the Roughstack V2 901/808d style from Madvapes with as I wanted to continue using the 808 clearomizers I've grown to love & can't live without now. I didn't buy a kit, but bought all the parts for it seperately... the charger is the green BR-1206W Lithium Ion Battery Charger - thats what I originally put the batteries into backwards & attempted to charge before I could clearly see the polarity +/- on it. I've got it pushed to the 4.2 volts, not the3.64. volt, as I thought from reading reviews of it on the madvapes site that's how I should do it for the 3.7 volt battery. That's what I'm worried about, maybe I damaged the batteries right off? I got two 3.7 volt Protected 18350 Lithium Ion Battery. Attempted to charge them, the light showed green, I don't know if the batteries were fully charged on arrival, but it never has been a red light. But I also haven't vaped it much as I'm not being satisfied by it, so I'm not sure they've had a chance to run down at all either. the ohms on the clearomizer are 2.6-2.8. But I continue to get a weaker hit of them then my KR808. Part of the reason I went with the Roughstack was the desire for a longer lasting battery, & I liked the way they look, & now I like the way it fits in my hand too, but not liking the weak vape.
RupertFranklyn, thank you for your thoughts too. Do you actually put 2 batteries in? I didn't know you could? I thought I had the option of 2 batteries for the 808 & thought I chose the better looking battery. I haven't yet tried asking Madvapes about it, I was hoping to learn more on the forums first. Thanks for any thoughts & help!!
after writing all that I just double-checked & I actually did have it on the 3.6 setting after all! now I've put both batteries back in the charger on the 4.2 setting & it is showing red indicator light! Let me charge it to green & see how it vapes! woo! I've got hope -will let you know how it goes! :)

Really all that pretty much any mod is doing is supplying voltage to an ato/carto. Without regulated voltage, the mod is going to give you the raw output of the battery.

That said, it can only be 1 of 2 things
1: bad battery
2: bad atty/carto

1: Check the voltage output of the battery with a DMM (battery and adapter should read almost identical)
2: check the resistance of the atty/carto with a DMM

I'm glad you sorted it out... and I'm sure you have by your description. The blue 18350s that madvapes sells are maybe 35% or 40% charged when they are down to 3.6v. I haven't tried the trustfires they have yet, but I bet they're about the same. li-on 18350s have a nice discharge curve and stay potent above 3.7v for a very long time. They drop off fast from 3.7 down to around 3.4 when they're dead.

Two batteries - only in the maxi rough stack. The maxi takes a pair of 3.0v batts for 6.0v, the 5.0v ni-mh batt, and and 18650 for 3.7v. If you decide you want that sort of flexibility, you can buy the long tube separately for $20 without and end cap and use the end cap you have on either tube. -- I actually did that and then ended up buying another end cap to have both sizes of rough stack complete. - Then I received the powder coat black sparkle maxi rough stack because Hoogie did me a huge favor when I somehow messed up one of my atty connectors. I really enjoy my rough stacks and now that you'll have your batteries all the way charged, I bet you will love yours too.

geesh,ok! Now that I figured out how to charge the batteries, I'm doing well - gotta be smarter than the equipment haha!
They charged for about four hours & are now vaping about identical to the v4l battery. But the charge will hold alot longer than the v4l battery it sounds like. I'm sure I'm going to love it too! Thanks six, for all your help. Your post on this is what pushed me over to buy the roughstack in the first place, my first upgrade - great review! And now I have more to consider adding for the future, I am curious about vaping at a higher voltage, I think I would enjoy that too.... :)
Arkador, still curious about the DMM, can I get that through Madvapes?
Love Madvapes too! They've got such a great amount of stuff to try & excellent customer service for me & others I've refered to them! They are my favorite vendor, though I haven't tried too many, I don't think I need to, I'm a customer for life!
