Its a diecast aluminum box I got here 1590G Hammond Manufacturing | HM841-ND | DigiKey

I just picked up a sheet of plexiglas from home depot, cut it to size, drilled and countersunk the screws.

you can see it better here

I might keep it clear, I just like the idea of the oled screen glowing behind a solid black panel. Either way it vapes like a train, I really like this board!

Smart of you to use the plexi. Saves a lot of headaches of cutting out for the display and the possibility of an uneven cut.
You can even lay-over some window tinting vinyl on the inside of the plexi

I have much respect for your AA dna box after wrestling with this thing, even with the space in my box it was a beatdown getting it in.

BTW thanks for the calculator, I've got a tank full of flamingo as I type

Thanks mel, cramming stuff into tight spots can be frustrating at times.

Glad you like the Calc and the Flamingo

wanted to thank breaktru for all his modding skillz...lots of inspiration from all of his mods...

and because of him, i present the 9 volt dna 20 box mod:

dna3_zps40bcbd2a.jpg

hope i didnt hijack your thread...just wanted to say thanks.

edit: one wacky thing ive noticed (prolly something i did in the wiring), everytime i put a new battery in the wattage goes up 0.1. ah well, i can live with that, a simple push on the down button solves it..but strange none-the-less. :)

also, lucky post #500!!!!!

That's fantastic J. Your mod came out really great. Thank you and thanks for the recognition.
Ain't it great to have a power house in such a small package. Your 18490 should supply enough ump for the DNA's min requirement of 7A. Being the AW is rated at 8C (8.8A max discharge rate).
Your 9v box can also hold an 18500 provided the battery spring/clips are not to long. The AW 18500 is too low rated for the DNA20 at 5.6A but the Efest 18500 is rated at 1100mAh, 8C which is also 8.8A max discharge. That is if the specs on it are correct.

thanks for the kind words break, it was a tight fit but was stoked to get a replaceable battery in there with decent mah and c rating. i think i should easily be able to last all day on 1 battery but a spare is easy enough to bring along for the ride. im so amazed that we can all have a nice display to go along with that dna mod just like breaktru's...basically building our own versions of one of the most sought after mods on the market, the darwin.

weird, i read that the aw 18490/18500 are rated 10c.

and now that i looked, some sites even list a 15c rating which seems wrong:
IMR18490 Specifications :

Nominal Voltage : 3.7V
Capacity : 1100mAH
Lowest Discharge Voltage : 2.50V
Standard Charge : CC/CV ( max. charging rate 3A )
Cycle Life : > 500 cycles
Max. continuous discharge rate : 15C
Operating Discharge Temperature : -10 - 60 Degree Celsius

thoughts?

I've read a lot of conflicting web data on the two batteries, AW IMR 18490 1100mAh (8C, calculates to 8.8A and 10C, calculates to 11A) and the AW IC 18500 1500mAh (2A calculates to 3C and 3A calculates to 4.5C and 5.6A)

I know if you have two batteries in paralell it doubles the mah. So if I am using two AW IMR 18490 1100mah is this correct?

(1.1ah x 2) x 8c = 17.6 amps

Does running two batteries in paralell also change the overall C rating?

Short answer is yes.

However any time you get multiple cells working together you run the risk of one being weaker or failing. But with the current we are dealing with its really not an issue, because even if one fails a single battery can handle the entire max rated load.

The c rating does not change.

Just ordered myself one. My heavy stainless steel tube came in today, too. I'm going to try to make a Provari style tube mod, I think...

This tubing is heavy walled and is going to need some lathe work - hope my buddy at work is willing to help. It should make for a very sturdy mod. The ID is identical to that of my provari, but the OD is 1". Might be nice to try to make a two part tube to accept an 18350 and a 18650.
I kind of wish that the DNA20 had a menu system - I'm kind of used to a 1 button mod. But, I guess I'll figure a way to get a couple extra buttons into that tube.

i was thinking the same about the menu system, but now that i have one in a mod i feel like its perfect. everything is right there, displayed infront of you. no silly menu system to click through. battery life, ohms, watts, voltage always at your disposal. super fast watt changes. no more messing with a menu, just pure high tech vaping.

I dont think an 18350 will work. The AW IMR 18350 700mah has a 8c discharge, thats 5.6amps. DNA 20 calls for 7amp minimum.

You could set it up with a spiny (technical term hehe) button

The DNA20D has the tact switches on board because it was designed specifically for a tube mod. If you can lay out the board in the tube so you can get pins to make contact w/ the tacts, that would be ideal.

I agree. I hate mods with menu systems and that's why I purposely avoided that when I made several MCU type mods. All the info on one screen is what works for me but... to each is own.

Sorry for the quick reply, I was on my way out.

I have been contemplating using a potentiometer with switch in a tube mod. Figured I could use the on board buttons to get the screen and other options setup before getting it into the tube. Once in you just have one button that turns for watts and pushes down for fire.

I did a quick search but haven't found anything I like.
