I've done this before with a 18490, it's just a little bit too short to use one with the whole telescope together which really sucks because i don't like the brass exposed that much, it's a pain to clean.
I agree, 1 of my 3 have the aluminum telescope, VK's is always out, been trying to get 2 more then I wont have to worry. Although on the newer ones as you can see not much brass exposed w/ the 18350.
Yep we would like to get those in too but Imeo hasn't made any more for extras so unfortunately it's out of our hands to have them in stock. 
if you buy the new spring you will be able to use it with the telescope full closed Fire my friend

Love the little 18350's. X2 when a little flat great with a few day old 808 carto too, kicks it back to life
Even with AVS on a single 18350 set up is pretty bloody small.
