Doesn't every mech mod contact it directly. The only mech I ever owned was a k100. And yeah I suppose. That's why I run regulated mods now. I know battery safety. Tho my regulated saved me from a short yesterday. Was on a nickel build so idk if that matters. But I think I'll stick with regulated

Most mech mods have a top cap with a 510 pin. The attys 510 makes contact with the mod's 510, which in turn contacts the battery.

Some mechs like the SMPL have no 510 pin. Just a threaded hole. So you screw on your atty and the atty itself touches the battery.

This is the SMPL. On the left you see the top of the mod. No centerpin.

So is the advantage there no voltage drop?

Check this video about hybrid top cap to understand why they are more dangerous if not use properly

I will. Likely tomorrow cuz it's late. Like I said I have no more mech. My last one stripped lol. The threads that is. I'll have probably avoid hybrid. If I was to buy a mech right now I would probably get fuhattan which I don't think is hybrid right?

No. The Fuhattan is a good choice. And has venting, unlike the Manhattan it was based on.

I'll consider it. I don't see too much in mech mods other than style points and durability. Plus if I ever want to cloud chase competition. But idk if I have the lungs for clouds like that. Lol. I found my own vaping niche between flavor chasing and tootle puffing and cloud chasing. I think a few of us or like half are there. Clouds and flavors man. Whatever works. My signature I need to fix cuz I screwed up. But I'm
About 4 months or like 5 without a cig.

Well, that's one but it probably isn't the primary. The bigger advantage is it reduced the overall length of the mod +topper. In fact, that there is little voltage drop becomes the DISadvantage when your negative thread on the outside, contacts the nipple or flat top positive of the battery. The meltdown at that point happens VERY quickly. I consider those hybrid mods suicide devices. Using them requires BOTH a great deal of experience, AND a great deal of diligence.

I'd like to know more details. I hate the term e-cigarette. Maybe we should call them fog machines for doll house rock concerts. I wait to see what he has to say....was it a lack of proper venting for the battery? Ignorant abuse of a discharged battery? Not recognizing a battery,s end of life?

I reckon if he admitted it was his mistake and that he'll continue to use ecigs, Fox will most likely cut that segment out of the report.

Precisely why i went regulated with authentic and good batteries

Had two accidents with mech mods... And all that screwing and unlocking and locking vs picking it up and vape

Regulated for the win

Well, I am not sure I like to "rely" on some cheap chinese "chip" to keep me safe. I mean, electronics do have failure points.

I guess it really depends, for me, who make the chip and if the device the chip goes into is also a reliable manufacturer.

I am very much against all this constant "blame the user" though, because, as I indicated in another topic similar to this one, I've vaped for 3 years and I would not intuitively know that I couldn't use certain atties with something like the SMPL mod and other stuff. Don't kid yourself, there are people on this board who have vaped a while and don't know stuff......people may be less willing to admit that than I am.

However, ANY battery (esp. if you don't buy good ones to begin with and don't have a good charger) can do weird things. That is why after people have failures of some sort, and you always see them coming on here and saying "can I still use the battery?" and mostly we tell them ..........don't.

Spend another $10 or so and get a new battery.

And these people aren't idiots. They are people who vape every day, and participate on vaping forums.

Besides, the blame game, in the face of an accident (ANY accident whether vaping or not) just always seems extremely convenient, and somewhat distateful. The longer I live the longer I realize that ..... every time I step outside to do something, in the wrong shoes, etc. or when my 75 pound retriever gets a little too frisky with me.

Accidents happen and people don't *deserve* to be hurt, ya know? We are all absent-minded sometimes, or are not consciously "focussed" at every moment of every day even though we kinda need to be.

There but for the grace of god go I.........

(A few years ago I visited a small child on the burn unit and it happens in "blink of an eye" how fast a toddler can move and there was something on stove boiling.....he had good parents, caring parents, not bad parents. I would have punched out anyone who made any kind of remark about this.....in the face of so much human suffering, it is just distateful to me

Richmond, Va...Right in Altria's back yard.
Dollars to dougnuts it didnt have a vape safe fuse in it.

He was probably also using a cheap battery from a vape shop with zero knowledge of battery drain rates, amps, wattage or voltage, as well.
