Actually, many branded vendors sell regulated 808's these days.

But I agree, it's mostly down to a difference in thread-type. And with the proliferation of adapters available, even that hardly matters anymore.

Probably the biggest difference in the 808 world is the Echo, but unless you're a cigar smoker or a lover of fat battery automatics even that isn't going to matter.

I think the biggest reason for having a preference comes down to comfort and familiarity at this point. If you start with S.I. or Bloog or V4L and have a positive experience then you're likely to continue purchasing from that same vendor. And likely the same is true for Volcano or even Blu.

But an 808 is just the type of threads. The thread size can't affect throat hit or vapor production. The juice being used and the carto/atty being used is what effects the vape, not the pattern the manufacturer happened to use for the threads.

You're 'technically' correct, but I too must swear that I've always turned back to 808 'systems' because '510' systems lack the 'flavor'. I KNOW the threading is the only difference and shouldn't make a difference... but I think the 'differences' go deeper than that... I just don't know why. (Can some PV Masters step up to the plate and break this all down for us here?... lol)..... For instance, I take the same juices and do a side by side comparison (510 to 808) and my 808 wins every time. (FLAVOR wise only!)

Someone please 'enlighten' us to this Enigma?

That wasn't my experience..... Started vaping with RN4081, moved on to 510's, then eGO, then! discovered the GO-go.... NOW LOVE the GO-go Fury, but hate the Blu and 510 threaded devices... lol.... but I follow your logic

If it helps, I've seen references to the Go-Go being the KR808D-3 model. But since it's the only unit using this thread type and the limited availability of adapters I doubt it matters much. :)

As for the differences in flavors, I experienced the same thing between my Volt and an eGo knockoff.

But then my progression is atypical. After trying manuals I moved back to automatics and now I'm getting into minis. Dipping on my j108 is a much better experience than dripping on my 901 ever was and less messy as well.

Still love my 808's, but that's solely reserved for the KuwEcho now with an X2 as an emergency backup.

Oh yeah, good point... the Go-go is an 808 on steroids... lol. I prefer the 'flavor' of a VOLT 808 (auto or manual) over any 510 or eGo system as well...

Someone does manufacture a Go-go to 808 adapter, but I'm not sure if there's any other adapters out there beside those.
Anyone know?

It's very possible whatever brand of 808 cartos you are using are of a better quality compared to whatever 510 carto you were using. I've noticed great difference in performance for 510 cartos, some I've used were junk, some were good, but were all 510 threaded.

Which brings us back to what I was saying before, 510 could mean ANYTHING. 510 could mean a genesis atty. I doubt any 808 carts offer flavor matching an AGA-T. Not a fair comparison, but that's the point, there are no fair comparisons to be made if thread pattern is the criteria, because there is such a huge variation in available attys/cartos/clearos/tanks/etc that the thread pattern is not what causes the difference in performance, it's the build of the atty or carto sitting on top of that connection.

Smoktech makes their cartos in both 510 and 808 threading, I'm assuming they are exactly the same on the inside, the only difference being the threads. If that's the case, you would have two cartos, one 808 and one 510 that both perform exactly the same.

Maybe I'm just getting picky with vaping lingo again, there are so many descriptors that used to apply but aren't really relevant to today's market, and I think the whole thread pattern thing is one of them. Pick one connection, and make it a standard. The 510 basically did that, but for some reason other thread pattern devices are still being made. I understand that's to cater to people who want that thread pattern, but hopefully once enough people understand the connection pattern means nothing we can move on to an industry wide standard.

You articulated that beautifully and I believe you're right.

An industry wide standard simply isn't going to happen. If no other reason than that it would put many of the branded vendors in a position to lose their locked-in customer base.

Not to mention the ones who use D-2 threading and really try to lock you in.

Or stuff like the eCab and eRoll. I guess a 510 connection was just too easy for Joye ;)

I strongly suspect that many of those branded vendors went with 808 or other thread pattern for the specific purpose or trying to lock their customers into using their cartos (often horribly overpriced pre-filled ones at that) I'm actually surprised that the Blue is 510, but I bet if Lorrilard was in control of Blu from the start they would have been using a brand new thread pattern that didn't match anything else.

Considering most all branded stuff, and non-510 stuff are cigalikes targeted towards new vapers, they probably hope that their customers would stay ignorant of the fact that they can use any other toppers they want. Those who don't treat vaping as a hobby might just consign themselves to using their branded prefilled cartos or whatever because they found out that normal 510 stuff doesn't fit their battery.

Not picking on any specific company here, just being general. That might not have been the motivation behind all of them that use non-510 stuff, but I'd bet many of them chose a non-510 for that specific purpose, and it pisses me off to be honest. If the only idea you have to ensure repeat business is locking the customer into buying from you, then you aren't doing something right. Repeat business should happen because people like your product, not because they don't have any other choice.

I'm kind of getting off topic now so I'll stop ;)

Yah, I agree with you. I also don't think it's going to happen!

Does anyone else feel like a red headed step child when they are trying to shop for 808 items? What I mean is, a good 90% of the market is 510 or eGo threaded items. I started with SI Volt and moved up to their X2 and I absolutely love them. I have already told them, if they were to carry flanged cartos and carto tanks, I would never shop for hardware anywhere else. I have one eGo battery and I like it so I can test out different delivery systems out there because it is so hard to find options with 808 threading. I use it for a back up when my X2s are charging.

I went to a vape meet that had some vendors... If I didn't own my one eGo I wouldn't have been able to make any purchases because everything was 510 and eGo connections. Drives me crazy.

Am I not looking in the right place for 808 supplies or are we the misfits of the vaping community? I know there are adapters out there but still...

I feel the same way because all of my batteries are 808 but v4l has all 808 stuff but it's pricey in my opinion

When I was a boon I eventually settled on 808 mainly because they "looked" just like my analogs.I needed that 2 years ago and it worked for me. Then I got in a rut, happily went on my way while vape tech passed me by. Now I feel like a bag lady, digging through this site and that to find pieces and parts It's simply an emotional attachment for a product that literally helped save my life. Now I feel like a troll reading and surfing to find an alternative solution. It is good knowing I'm not alone, but I will have sincerely find and alternative, but the 808 remains my first love. Thank you for the list of sites it truly IS appreciated

The problem with the 510 is that it's a bad design. From the viewpoints of both mechanical strength and ergonomics, the male thread should be on the battery.
