Hey ECF I have only ever used mech mods because they were the best cheap option for my sub ohm flavor builds but I am wondering what everyones opinions are about these new SX chip mods coming out of china that are now ranging from 20-50w which is pretty impressive and imo seems like the future. I only buy one vape at a time and I am on the market for a new one that will last me a long time. What are the pros and cons to getting an SX chip mod vs getting another mech mod?

I haven't picked up my mech mod since getting my DNA30 clone. Unless you're into really low subohming (below .5 ohms) then the regulated 30+ watt mods are awesome.

30 watt mods are good to .6 ohms. Below that a mech puts out more watts.
50 watt mods are good down to .4 ohms. Below that and a mech puts out more watts.

If you're building at lower than .4 ohms, stick with mechs and wait for the 100 watt mods to start showing up.

The SX chips get good reviews as do DNA and others. There are tons of people vaping regulated output at all kinds of power levels with all kinds of chips in use. Go here for information from people who actually use these rigs. Don't be afraid to go past the first page of posts. This forum gets a lot of activity.

Aside from regulated power you get battery protection from the SX chips. Even if you plan to use some builds on a mechanical you can test fire them on one of the higher watt regulated mods which is a nice feature. The IPV 50 watt SX330 V2 allows down to .2 oHm builds. Elev8 has a preorder for them for $80.

Also, the regulated, boosted power will give you much more flexibility in what type of builds you can do since you aren't chained to the non-boosted battery power output from a mechanical.

A .5 oHm build at 30 watts/3.87 volts will draw 7.74 amps while a 3 oHm build at 30 watts/9.49 volts will only draw 3.16 amps. That will result in longer battery life. If you like fast heating you can use thinner wire for higher oHm builds.

Very interesting idea with using thinner wire for higher ohm builds with higher power. Do you think that waiting for the 100w version of the sx330 is worth it? I often times build below .4 ohms on my mechs and enjoy the warmer vape but I am not sure how that correlates to regulated mods since I have never used one. I am thinking that anything above 50w regulated would burn through my battery too quickly. Also do you think that the SX350 chip will become available on an economical mass produced mod like the IPV or will it remain a chip for modders only?

50 watts should be more than powerful enough to satisfy all but a very small percentage of vapers. Experimenting with different builds on it will give you a very good idea if more power would interest you.

I very vaguely recall someone mentioning something about December and the 100 watt version but I didn't pay close attention. Time frames for something that far out don't tend to be at all reliable.

I am mystified about YiHi's decision to not release the SX350 for large scale manufacturing already so I don't know if they might do so in the future.

I use mech's and regulated mod's. Mech's for work and a vtr+134mini for at home. A mech with a kaifun lite+ with a 1.3 ohm build is heaven for me. On the regulated i also use around the same resistance and i never exceed the 10 watts. More then that and i feel like i destroy my liquids. Unpleasant flavour. So i'm very confused/sceptical about sub-ohm(ing) and such high wattage. Is that any good/safe?

The advantage of the regulated mods seems pretty clear, is the difference in battery life significantly lower for the SX chips compared to mech mods?

What's wrong with the mech you have? You could get an SX chipset, and keep your mech.

Nothing is wrong with my mech, I am just trying to get a feel for what the SX chips are like. I have a limited budget for mods so I am trying to decide if I should pull the trigger now on the IPV 50w, wait a month to see if something better comes out, or build my own SX350 mod.
