The entire resistance in the circuit. (i.e switch, wire, mounting piece, solder joints)

ok that was i was expecting to hear Thank you.

i see some people talking about getting different voltage drops (under load) when using different batteries and the same mech...
of course they forget to say it was under load so i had no idea what they meant to say.

Lower total voltage drop = more power delivered to the coil. Copper, brass, and aluminium mods tend to show better than stainless steel. Silver plated contacts seem to do better than plain brass. Actual design seems to play a role as well, mainly switch design, and total length of the mod. A shorter mod will have a lower voltage drop all other things being the same.

It only makes a difference when sub-ohm is used. If your mod has 0.1Ω resistance, and you use a 0.4Ω coil, the voltage drop would be 20% to the mod, 80% of the power to the coil. In a series DC circuit the voltage is split up between ALL the resistances in the circuit. Now if you have a 1.9Ω coil on the same mod, 5% of the voltage is dropped in the mod and 95% in the coil....much better ratio.

i understand the electrical theory. i have seen a few people talk about voltage drop in relation to batteries and not specify "under load".
did not know if there was a generalized slang made up for battery voltage drop under load and voltage drop across the passive elements.
there is not.
Thanks for your help everyone.

Brass and copper smell bad. They pit and they decay. Aluminum is soft and the threads are not solid. Pretty much leaves you with SS if you want something that lasts. Or an alloy. I prefer titanium if I hv a choice.

Some folks like the look of aged brass and copper ... If I hit the lotto one day I'll spring for one made of Tri Gold Mokume in 18K Yellow Gold, 14K Palladium White Gold, and 14K Red Gold, not sure about what that would do for voltage drop but it would be a beast I'm sure.
