If that were the case, we'd be in serious doo-doo.

FDA identifies 92 events of overheating/fires/explosions from 2009 to 2015

There have been enough incidents where the government could have stepped in. And if you thought government regulation was bad now, that's nothing after CPSC gets done with something (think what happens after OSHA gets involved with safety issues).

Wonder what the circumstances are for CPSC to get involved vs something being required to have a UL listing. I see that there is a UL listing for lithium batteries that's already been put out.

I think the risks need to be put into context, the FDA and other government departments around the world are seeking to close down the vape industry as it is in its current form. They are actively looking for an excuse. The FDA has managed to find 92 incidents in 6 years. 15 to 20 Million users, using a huge range of devices including mechs every day.

Compared to smoking the risks of fire or explosion are minimal. Even using a mech....

I mostly agree. But when there are injury accidents it's almost always about mechs. People who get in auto accidents almost always made some mistakes, usually several, but that doesn't stop us from putting seatbelts in cars. The easy advice to newbies is, just don't go there until you're very experienceedwith regulated devices. Then go watch a youtube video of an Li battery venting and decide if it's worth it.

    REOs and :pop:!

Now there's an accident waiting to happen.
eggs actly  it's the driver that keeps the car safe, not all the doo dads that's on board . Vaping is about to be steamrolled and paved over by a federal agency that has no answer ability to the people under it's jurisdiction. The storm is here and it's a big 'un. Quibbling over semantics is folly at this point. Man the cannons! It's going to be a rough ride ahead...
