Melted eGo charger and two dead batteries

I purchased an eGo, I think, from a woman who lives about an hour away from me. She ships for free, but I was impatient so I spent about $100 with a few juices, after driving an hour south to her house. She pieced together an eGo for me and mixed some flavors. No box or manual or anything. No distinguishing marks, but it looks like the pictures I see of what an eGo looks like. 12 hours after buying it the lo-res atomizer goes. She sent me another one though as a replacement.

Here's where it gets worse: So about 3 weeks into enjoying my eGo, I notice the charger that plugs into the wall isn't switching from red to green any more. I thought maybe it wasn't screwed on all the way or something. I made sure, but the light stayed red. I figured the battery must be charged since it's been charging for nearly 18 hours. I unplugged that battery (pass thru) and screwed in the other battery (non pass thru) I got when I purchased the eGo. I like to charge the other battery and switch them out before I even have to worry about having a dead battery. The same thing with this battery too, the red light on the charger isn't turning green after hours and hours of leaving it on the charger.. It just stays red the whole time. Also, for whatever reason the battery that I had taken off that was on for hours, didn't last past the drive in to work. When I got home for lunch, I noticed neither battery was holding a charge. I go to take a drag and the light just starts blinking on the battery and I get barely any hit.

So I ended up buying a pack of cigarettes after three weeks of not smoking one.

I noticed that the wall charger, where it screws onto the battery, the plastic looked melted. I unscrewed the charger and see a melted spot under the small circuit board inside, with a huge black burned spot on the circuit board.

Is that something that happens often? Do I have to worry about the house burning down? It was enough to melt the plastic on the charger and burn the circuit board and apparently ruin both of my batteries. Now the pass thru won't even charge this battery. So I have two dead batteries after only a few weeks of owning this thing. I'm disappointed with the pass thru too. I figured while plugged in, even if the battery is dead, I could get a good hit. Nope, within 1 second it blinks and the hit is small. I can keep doing this a bunch of times in a row, but it's not as enjoyable. I get tired of doing it before I get enough nicotine. :)

Did I get garbage generic parts since there was no box or manual that came with it? There were no distinguishing marks anywhere. The parts look pretty generic, although I have no idea.

So now I am waiting for two new batteries and a new charger that should arrive on Thursday, from a place I heard of on here.

Has anyone ever had a melted charger or ruined batteries? I heard the batteries need to be replaced ever so often, but is it usually only a few weeks after they're new? Do the batteries just stop working like that all of a sudden. I figured the charge time would get less and less over time until you just decided to replace them. These here went from lasting all day to not holding a charge, overnight.

I can't say for sure that you got non Joyetech stuff without seeing some pictures. From the sound of it I would guess that you either got a knockoff or some used equipment. I haven't heard too many problems recently with Joye chargers, although for a while there people were complaining that they weren't charging right. The complaint was different from yours though, people were screwing in the batteries and the light never changed from green to red to indicate a charge was happening.

Best suggestion I can give you is, if you think vaping is for you is to try one of the better known, reputable vendors that participates here on the ECF. That way, if you, god forbid, have more problems, the reputable vendor has a stake in making sure you end up happy. My favorite vendor is Good Prophets GoodProphets.com and Good Prophets, LLC

Best of luck to you,

Sounds like faulty equipment. The batteries should last a few months is my understanding. I have Ego's, but they are not my primary vaping device. You might call the person you purchased them from and let her know what is going on with the products she is selling. She may ask for the equipment back and return your money. She might just hang up on you. But she needs to know (she might already) that her products are not quality and she needs a new supplier. Good luck and so sorry about your bad experience.
A great example (because you caught it in time) of why you should be home when charging batteries, things can go wrong and at least you can smell the burning and stop anything bad from happening with faulty equipment.

Cadkins, sounds like you got a mess of trouble going on there.

You've already ordered another charger and batteries, so your already invested into
that particular model, for the moment.

Give those a try and if you have any more problems, trash all that and get another
PV from a reputable vender, as suggested above.

Hey, we all live and learn. You tried and are having a little stumbling block.
It's ok, almost everyone here, has more than one PV!!!

Good luck and let us know how it goes with the new charger and batteries.

She "pieced together an eGo" for you? Like... she just had pieces laying around?

I don't know, sounds to me like someone that was just getting rid of their OLD (and possibly defective) stuff and trying to make a fast buck off it. There's no telling how old those batteries she had actually were and how many times previously they might have been recharged. Even batteries that haven't been recharged only have a shelf-life of about 2 yrs.

I think you are definitely on the right track now - buying new batteries and a new charger from a reputable dealer. Considering the quality (or rather, lack thereof) of the merchandise she sold you, you might also want to purchase some spare attys or cartos - depending which you're using.

It makes me sad (and angry) that this happened to you. I hope everything works out better for you now.

Shouldn't happen, though there's at least a chance that the batts aren't toast, that it's just the charger. If you have a standard 510 charger you might be able to fit an eGo battery on it -- it will take much longer to charge, but see if that works.

Otherwise, an opportunity to try a Riva 510 -- liberty flights still has a bunch in stock, full starter kit with two batteries and charger runs $30 after the discount code (that's on their site), cheap shipping, good vendor reputation. If you do that, perhaps also pick up one spare charger (from the same Riva 510 page), that way you can use one to try charging the ego batteries, and if the batts toast the charger you'll still have a good one to use with the new Riva batteries.

Yeah we'll see. I ordered the new parts from: ecigbestsave? I think I found the site from on here at one point.

Hopefully these are genuine parts and hopefully I won't have any issues. As you can see, I bought my girlfriend and another female friend a Joye 510. My girlfriend gets the PCC because thats what she liked about her Blu eCigs. I tried cancelling the two batteries and charger and ordering the eGo kit since the batteries and charger were $60, but somehow it didn't make it to the shopping cart I guess. Oh well, at least I'm getting the parts I need.

For less than $200 I got the following:
# 1 of : eGo/Joye 510 Black Atomizer
# 1 of : eGo/Joye 510 Pink Atomizer
# 1 of : Joye 510 Auto Kits - Pink
# 1 of : Joye 510 Auto Kits - Purple
# 1 of : Joye 510 Pink Deluxe Case
# 1 of : Joye 510 Purple Deluxe Case
# 1 of : Joye 510 Purple PCC
# 1 of : Joye 510/DSE901 Aluminum Drip Tips - Light Pink
# 1 of : Joye 510/DSE901 Aluminum Drip Tips - Purple
# 1 of : Joye 510/DSE901 White Delrin Drip Tip
# 1 of : Joye eGo Battery - Black
# 1 of : Joye eGo Battery - White
# 1 of : Joye eGo USB Mega Charger w\Cable
