What's that build ohm out to? I may try that next in one of my Merlins.

I couldn't/didn't get a good grip on the bottom part of the base and the lower chimney/chamber came off with the deck base. I guess more accurately said: since the lower chimney outer ring is so small and has no knurling I couldn't grip that to properly separate it from the deck base.
I hate it when that happens. Now when I'm unscrewing the base and I feel any resistance I make sure to watch carefully that I'm not unscrewing the tank. If I am, I remove the merlin from my mod and be extra careful removing the base. When I'm done I make sure to tighten the tank up portion up good and don't over tighten when screwing the base back on.

Luckily it doesn't happen often.

yes, I have so many new to me RTA's in rotation right now (just started sub ohming a couple months ago and doing rta's maybe a month ago) it is hard to remember the nuances for each new tank I am trying. The RTA's get so much use now I need to work on emptying out all my sub ohm clearomizers and wash up most of them to go back into storage.

Happened to me twice. It NEEDS knurling, but too late for this version.

I wanted a restricted vape with my Merlins so I took some SS mesh and rolled it up and stuck it in the air inlet. Working great.
Im with you. I have always preferred a tighter draw. I only have 30% lung capacity in my left lung so if its an unrestricted air flow, it last me less than a second. I have the air flow almost all the way shut.

The below are my suggestions to improve this RTA:

1. Make it a bigger width and shorter tank with the chimney slightly shorter and juice capacity remain unchanged. May be a 24/25mm tank with slightly shorter chimney or shorter pipe (which connect the chimney to the drip tip). This should make it:

a) Easier to deliver warmer vapor particularly with big and thick coil ( >= 3.5mm and <= 24ga).
b) Because the distance between coil and my mouth is closer, I believe this change shall produce even better favor.
c) Because the gap between juice hole and the glass is wider, it should make a bubble coming out from the juice hole (if any) easily escape instead of holding itself at the juice hole.

2. Have a better juice flow control mechanism. I think the fact that user can easily and accidentally close the juice hole implies a design flaw.

3. I wish I could find a way to close the top cap (after refill) without smearing my hand with oily juice, that implies the top refill parts required a thorough revision.

4. Bigger and solid O-rings that holds the glass tank at both end. Quite often I wish I could unplug the chimney for cleaning without draining those existing juice in my tank.

5. Give us a hex key screwdriver (even if it will be a cheap and small one) instead of a L shape Allen key and I believe this should make the process of plugging a coil to this device even easier and a pleasure.

You can do pretty much any build with this tank. I get great flavor with most builds I've done, but do find a really large ID (4.5 to 5.5mm) and mounting so the top of the coil is even with the posts works best. I've run a continuous dual vertical, inception coil, exo alien, big braids, even a spherical shaped fused clapton.

Yea, Once I tried the notch coil in there that was perfect. My hand wrapped coils can't really compete with the notch. I will definitely be buying more notch coils. I just got my titanium wire yesterday so I will give that a try soon.

vaping some deadly sin out of my merlin this morning on some pre-coiled .22ohm hive wire I bought locally some time ago.

twisting single strand wire makes them much easier for me to coil. I was having problems learning with plain stainless and kanthal. I twisted some stainless yesterday and re-wired my griffin today with 9 wraps of twisted 26ga @ 0.2ohm and I am loving it. better flavor than the kanthal and now I can run it in tc mode. My merlin will be getting twisted ss316l next time it needs a new wick, as will all my rtas going forward.

I was also going to buy some SS wire, but DFW didn't have any so I just settled with the titanium. I had to look up videos on how to build with titanium because I wasn't sure if you needed to torch it or not. But you don't. I have read a lot of good stuff here about Clapton wire in the Merlin so I will also try that.

Anyone have pictures of their titanium coil builds in the Merlin? I was wondering how much spacing it needed to work well because I can't make the coil too long in this tank.

I get all my single strand wire from temco. I plan to order some clapton from lightning vapes. I bought some pre-coiled clapton, quad twisted, and hive wires locally and liked them all but going forward I will be twisting my own and learning how to do other more complex styles. I do have 2 ferris wheels of clapton/hive kanthal on the boat from china as well.

The triple twisted 28g stainless I put in yesterday, is easily my favorite build yet.

Do any of you use titanium in this tank? Does it work well? I only got that titanium from DFW because I buy my juice from them as well, so It was easier to just buy it with my last juice order.

I used to use ti a while ago. Haven't in this tank.
There are so many wire/coil types to choose from it's like a research project to find one that works good. :matrix:

Did anyone notice the site going down for a few minutes in the past 5-10 minutes? I couldn't connect at all.

Not sure if it was you or someone else that mentioned you were an "experienced" coil builder? Just wondering as many of your questions here, make me wonder? Even if you are new to regulated mods like the Pico, perhaps coming from mech mods, just wondering?
