Pic is what it looks like fresh and ready to go. This setup is rocking big time except for when the cotton seperates and I get a wicked burnt taste. It is never dry (out of juice) when this happens. If anything t may be too wet or flooded. I open it up and the cotton coming off the right side of the coil will be seperated from the rest and laying in the juice. It happened probably 3 times today already.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Igo-L on a Kamry K100. Aw IMR 18650. 30ga kanthal 8 wrap 1/16 micro coil.

If it's separating too much, try rolling up your cotton. Are you using cotton balls? If so, are you cutting, or ripping off the extra wick? I don't understand if it is coming off parallel or perpendicular to the coil. My cotton balls, you can't see where new strands length wise begin when you unravel them. Try scissors, a different brand of cotton ball, or rolling your wick.

But shoggot has a good point. Beds are really easy.

Yep, I would have to agree cotton density seems to be the issue here. The left side is dead on. You are pretty close with the right side, just a hair too little... practice is the only way to make this perfect. I also add a little twist to the cotton to help it stay together. its a very little twist but it keeps it from coming apart. Otherwise this looks like a good coil.

I twist the cotton up stuff it thru the wick then use my needle tipped bottle to drip and fluff all at the same time at each end. Fluffing it seems to untwist it in the middle slightly. If the middle twist inside the coil is too tight it won't wick as well as it should. Your wick looks a bit thin compared to mine. I fluff mine huge on each side it seems to hold more when it is fluffy and sort of puffy.

yeah maybe the right side has less wick than needed once it starts to get dry, so the cotton dries out and shrinks and has less gripping ability. Try being conscious of which angle you hold the atomizer and make the juice run towards the side this keeps happening. Keep the right wick on the bottom so when you tip it the juice runs towards it. Or just rip it out and put a piece in that is just a little bit thicker. Hope you can figure it out.

I am using a mountain dew flavor juice, extreme soda flavor from flavor west.

I am only rolling the coil enough to get it threaded through the wick, the rest I leave unrolled. It seems to wick better when uncompressed...

I'm coming from protanks so my coil fu is weak still.

Lol your coil-fu looks ok to me.

Sent from my cotton stuffed microcoiled Android unit.

my cotton splits too. I realized that was being for 2 reasons. when i'm wicking the coil, I start taking the wick back and forth to make sure it is fitting right. This movement is making the middle of the wick thinner than the edges. The second reason is the wick is getting dry. Remember it dries out in the middle first, so with a thin piece in the middle it will just split. This was my analysis and only happening with my 1.2mm build so i might be off.
