The news is not good. They can't seem to get him off the respirator. He fights them when they bring him up from sedation, he can't breath on his own. The virus (pnumonia) that started this has further damaged his already damaged lungs to an extent that he has maybe 10 days to be removed from the respirator, Then I have to decide what to do. They can give him a tracheotomy (to breath) and stomach feeding tube inserted. He will be sedated for the remainer of his life in a nursing home. Or I can chose to take him off everything. The only hope we have is if they can get him weaned off the respirator.

This is the worst week of my life.

The new update is that they will paralyze him tonight for a 24 hr. period. He is breathing with his midsection instead of his chest. They tell me that is wrong and causes more work on his part. So they are going to put him on full respirator and let his chest rest. They hope when they bring him out of that that his breathing pattern will reset and he will breath normally and let them try to wean him off the respirator again. I don't like it but I will let them try. At this point I would try most anything.

Mike's family is just amazed by the posts on my facebook by so many wonderful people we have known thru the years and my old discussion group. They don't even know about you guys! I am humbled and Mike is lifted up by the Prayers and well wishes from all of you.
Mikes sister and brother are coming from Ca. to be with us. These two and the one that just passed away grew up with him. They arrive tomorrow.
Shawn will be here from R.I. on Friday..he doesn't know how serious it is..he is in the middle of winter finals.
I don't think Mike will make it thru the weekend, he is so weak and his blood pressure is dropping. The paralytic was done twice for 12 hours each time..but he still is having a hard time. He is also swelling. I asked the nurse what she thought and of course..just like with mom the Dr's and nurses won't say. My relatives had flights for the 14th. Finally a nurse told my daughter that maybe the family should get here a lot sooner.
I pray that he can hold on so Shawn can say goodbye. They are so very close.
Nothing would please us more then for Mike to recover..even a little, but he is on max oxygen and max medications with no improvement.
Keep us in your Prayers and thoughts..it really helps and I believe that will all my heart.
