Nice Pair Willy :)

How come there are no coffee cups?
Messy maybe, but I am very aware that electricity and spilled coffee don't mix. The coffee cup is on the bench behind me.

That flex piping is exactly the kind of thing I thought would be nice to have. I have one of these Snap-On gages I used when I twisted wrenches. Nice thing about that one is there is a tension lever, release it and the joints are loose, tighten the lever and it locks up solid. I'm going to find some of that tubing and make up a jig, thanks guys!

I just want to take a moment and thank everyone in this thread and name a couple super cool guys.... @Cotay, @Steamer861, @SlickWilly, @BlueridgeDog .... Cotay has been patiently answering questions for me in PM, and guiding me on a purchase and has gone out of his way to help me... I appreciate that man. Steamer861 helped me out with a purchase in a big way, Slickwilly took the time to post details and pictures of how to do a build, and BlueridgeDog has offered to correct a problem out of the clear blue sky that he is not even responsible for! I mean cmon! how does it get classier than that!? I'm just some dude in my mid to late 40s, none of you know me, I'm just the poster with the awesome Jedi NFL avatar (Go Cowboys, yeah I went there) but the help I've gotten here is unmatched. I have been super humbled over the last few days here by these guys. EXTREMELY COOL GROUP!!!

Oh and thanks to @mikepetro for running the coops, otherwise I wouldnt even be in this thread. But I would have more money now, so I may have to think about that one ;)

No need to thank me, I'm still green and came not too long before you. I'm happy to help if I can but I'm still a newbie myself, thanks to these guys for also helping me out and putting up with me. I'm just paying it forward when I can. Yeah there are a bunch of good folks here! :)

Finished up my 1590A build last night, well there are a couple minor touch up's but it's fully assembled, up and running. I'm happy with the results, happy to have a smaller mod but I wouldn't want to build another one any time soon. Even with a small 800 mAh battery real estate is slim and it was tedious work that tried my patience's more then once, using 12 ga silicone wire for the outputs really added to the challenge but I wanted this one done right.

A couple things became very apparent, having a temp control soldier station, assortment of tips, quality flux and solder really makes the job easier and does such a nice job. Helping hands is a must to hold the board and the wire in place during the soldering and keeping anything from moving during the process including cool down of the solder, there is no way to feed solder and get a quality joint if you anything other then solder in one hand and wand in the other. I was very pleased with the soldering I was able to do even with the 12 ga wire, in a lot of ways soldering is a lot like welding, heat, create a puddle and feed wire/solder to the joint.

I need some advice, those cheap alligator helping hands are causing me frustration, I need something better without breaking the bank. I don't need top of the line, I'm looking for something cheap but better then these, suggestions?

Not really all that large for me.

Now, that hyperion battery is gonna be a tight fit. Will have to wrap it with some ribbon to be able to remove it when necessary. Plus, I think I will have to change out the XT60 connector for an XT30 for room. More pictures later as I assemble. :)

My contribution for the messy workbench aficionados -

A closeup of most of the parts for the low tank mod. Case (sitting upside down), bottom cap with door (needs to be milled down to the case size), top cap with atty and display cutouts, battery tube, battery/board sled, button blanks and the back half of the atty cutout -

Going to give my bench the ol' college try,,,PH&D,,, piled higher and deeper,,, then I can get to work!

That was my line and I kept putting off cleaning the workbench. Then I just dove in and started, adding more to the mess.

I have a habit of shoving the last pile to the side and getting to work, when done walk away and leave the mess. Funny I didn't use to be like that when I worked as a mechanic, when I was done working on a vehicle I would clean all my tools, put them all away, clean my bench, work area and sweep the floor before I'd pull the car outside. I use to hate working in a cluttered mess, now it's the norm.
