Does anyone know what grade of block aluminum the REO Grand is made of?

I'm thinking of milling my Grand's to make room for the AFC Cyclone. I have access to a private machine shop and an experienced machinist (My dad) and I'm trying to get an idea of what material we're dealing with. It could make a difference in what tooling we decide to go with.

BTW that Nimbus is really sweet looking!

You guys are fast... I love this place. Thank you!

It'll take me a while but I will definitely be posting picks when they're finished.

Just seems a waste to buy one already done when I already have 3.

Now I'm thinking about how to finish the surface afterwards. Maybe just a nice shiny polish job to match the atty, hmmmm.

Hey mod masters. There's a helios clone in classies. 15 bucks with some diy flavors.. How hard would it be to make a bottom feeder out of it?

Helios might be tough with the configuration of the positive posts. That being said I've been using a dremel and cordless drill to covert my attys. But that is pretty tempting. At that price might be worth going for.

I'm always using that thing. Grinding screws to turn them into atty parts, shaping wooden bf mods, and such. The only thing to be aware of is that you get some aluminum dust on the table/bed of the disc sander. If you slide your REO around on it, you'll get scratches. I used a little piece of plywood as a sled and made sure it was clean if I repositioned the REO on it. And didn't slide the REO on the plywood, only sliding the plywood on the sander's table. As an afterthought, if I ever do it again, I'll probably lay a little piece of leather or stiff cloth on the plywood first (just to see if I can get it caught in the spinning disc . . . . . tee-hee).

Good tip! :)
I know I use my bench grinders a lot now with this mod stuff. I already know what aluminum will do to that LOL. I'm thinking a sander might get a lot of use now as well. Maybe one of those combo belt/disk type.

This new vaping hobby has go me thinking.... machine shop.... CNC.... yea.:2cool:

Do eet! Do eet nao!

the only thing about those combination ones is that it's hard to find a 12" disc on one of them (and still have some $ left for like food and stuff). I really enjoy the larger working surface area. I got a "shop fox" a few years back (5-6), and it's still working great despite being an "affordable" brand.

Got a couple of ft specials today, the Helios clone and the scar clone. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg
The mods weren't too bad. The scar is bottom air like an octopus, only without the side hole on the body under, I put it on and squonked it and up came juice, so, ok, drill the cap and go. Works fine, except the deck doesn't seal around the edges wit hint he cap, so you get some juice through the air tube and some oozing into the cap from the deck. Doesn't look good for funky juices or wash back pollution. Unflavored might be ok. Taste and clouds are great, no netter than the rm2.
The Helios had to be drilled throughout he pin from the bottom, then into the side of the post below the positive block, a little harder, but not bad on a drill press. All brass in there I think. The fundamental flaw with the afc of the clone is that all three air holes on the ring are all the same size! Would you like medium, medium, or medium? Easily rectified. Also, clearly the deck is set up for dual coils, .... here is only one set of air holes, not two. Ummmm? Third, the thing is gigantic! Looks like 44" mudders on an s10. I may just have to build a 28650 bottom feeder for this thing. Best part? Cool ss drip tip. Easily worth the $5.72.

I know... I'm getting slow in my responses. I am reading, but life is beating me down. It's almost go-time here.

Anyways, here is what you were asking for:

Took a shot at my trident and was successful.

I grooved the copper pin with a $5 dremel from harbor freight, and the top hole is 1/16" drilled at a 45 between the post and the base.

If I could do it again, I would have done a 1mm hole on each side of the post instead of the 1/16 on one side.

I also add this disclaimer: I do not know what adverse health effects could occur from vaping juice that is in contact w/copper. I have not noticed any change in my juice flavor, and used that for quite a while.

If you are concerned with the possible risks of copper + juice, I suggest getting a SS set screw to replace the copper.

Also, the atty I modded was the $90 Trident by Grand Vapor. From what I can see, the $10 clone from FT will not work like this. The $25? Clone from FT looks to be identical to the original.

Hope this helps.

The over sized atties rock on a grand, I'm replacing all my REOs with LP Grands.. can't believe there's not more talk about them. I've been using a dual coil IGO-W at .7 ohms drilled out to 1/16 duals and it's a majestic beast!

I just got my Trident clone last night and I was able to mod it following Xobeloot's example (thank you!) but I'm having trouble with a spinning negative post screwing things up. I was able to remove the post and I've been trying to think of ways to secure it in the atty, I tried using a little tin foil to make it a tighter fit but I couldn't really get it down in the hole. Does anyone have any ideas or methods they use to fix spinning posts?

Edit: actually I fixed the spinning post with a little silver solder and heating the crap out of it. Nice Atty, downsides are dual coils are a little cramped once the top cap is on, the center post juice hole costs 3 cobolt bits and the threads on the 510 connector are really bad, its also too long.

My low-pro is my daily driver right now. Only one I brought to Afg with me. Didn't bring my trident with me... Dualies drain the battery too fast and i am often nowhere near a charger.

I've been swapping between one of Rob's Igo-s and the chalice Dennis sent me... Yep Dennis, i wound up bringing it... I dont think I could have gone a year without!

The Igo is quite nice, but I only run singles on it.. No plans to add a second coil or air hole.

I'll get back to fancy coilwork when I get home, but for now it's all about quick and easy... Super_X standard micros wrapped on the DZ jig.

I received a second Trident clone yesterday, this is a $12 one from FT. It's MUCH nicer than the one I originally got from RTD, threads are smooth, good o-rings and the metal seems better especially on the posts. It also seemed easier to drill the deck after dremeling a flat spot. I'm definitely getting more!

edit: the only problem I had with it is the two holes directly across from each other, for dual coils, are slightly different sizes.
