Christmas 1962 was another memorable one for me. I got a Barbie wardrobe packed full of all sorts of clothes. Some were knitted or crocheted but most were hand sewn. My mom was on complete bed rest due to a pregnancy and this is what she did to pass the months. There were even little handmade metal hangers but suspect dad did those. My favorite was always the 50's skirt set with the poodle embroidered on it.

The parents of one of my friends had an annual tradition of inviting friends over for Glogg (a Swedish mulled wine). This was always held in the late afternoon and both my friend and I had mixed feelings about it: on the one hand, there were always lots of cookies; but, on the other, our parents made us dress up and hang around with the rests of the guests.

Another memorable Christmas... must have been either 13 or 14... my mother made me a faux leather...I am guessing vinyl, maxi coat. Navy blue with big silver buttons. Double welt seams and fully lined. It was gorgeous... I just couldn't wear it in real cold weather because the material got as stiff as a board

Some of the greats....why does it seem that everyone used to put out a Christmas album.....now the only ones you can find are these classics.....maybe they had to do it then...but I would think that if I were on top on the music world I would want to.....

Michael Bublé is one of the newer Christmas shows I will watch.... Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas with Oscar the Grouch because I love the puppets.....

Even though he is Jewish, Bob Dylan put out one a few years ago... and all of the proceeds went to a charity!!

(this is one of the better tunes... some of the old standards he did were pretty bad!! )​

One very memorable Thanksgiving (for all the wrong reasons) involved my first attempt to make stuffing. Now bear in mind, that I didn't grow up with a mother or anyone who could teach me how to cook. I'd seen stuffing done, (sort of) this was before the days of the food network. I got all the right ingredients in it, except, I didn't know I was supposed to cook cornbread and crumple that up in it, so I just sprinkled cornmeal in it! Tasted like sand!!! Oh well, live and learn. Now I make excellent stuffing if I do say so myself!

This contest theme said holidays, so I'm including NYE here. A very fond memory was every NYE with my dad listening to Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, watching the ball drop, and of then in later years, watching .... Clark for so many years!! Sure do miss him doing the NYE countdown. I just don't enjoy the music shows anymore for the most part.

Battery is dying, and I'm gonna probably be going back to where I live today with my SIL. I don't have access to the computer very often there, once or twice a week maybe. I've been at my son's the last 4 days. I will get on when I can, but it's been great to play and yak with y'all!

Dave, I LOVED that video from a year without a santa claus. That's another one I try to watch every year and want to get on video.

My favorite Christmas memories involve trying to pretend asleep while my brothers and I knew that our presents were out under the tree!

I miss us all getting into the car while my father drove us around looking at Christmas lights. It was one of his favorite things to do, then he always wanted to stop at his favorite local donut shop for hot drinks, donuts, and converstaion with everyone in there.

I remember counting the days until this came on. We actually had dinner with friends that night and all of us kids kept asking what time it was so that we could watch this. 15 minutes into it, we were all ready to turn it off but none of us wanted to admit it. The only good thing to really come out of this was the introduction of Boba Fett in a short, crudely-drawn cartoon segment.

It's been many years since I've done it, but when I lived in Galveston, we used to always dress up in Victorian dress and go to Dicken's on the Strand. I used to work at the Elissa and 1877 tall ship that was restored for tours and we'd always end up there for crawfish boils and wassail (loved the glogg post earlier) The Elissa would do day sails by invitation only once a year, and I actually got to sail on her twice! First time I was 8 months pregnant with my son. Great times and wonderful memories.

SK, had to think about whether to like that or not. lol It was done well, but man do we sing some horrible things to our kids as lullabyes. I sang rock a bye baby to my son, but I had to change a lot of the words. I wasn't about to sing we're gonna stick you in the top of a tree, the winds gonna blow, the trees gonna break, and yur gonna fall and bust your.........diaper! Then expect him to go to sleep. hehehe
