This was basically our theme song while working 2nd shift in '88. Didn't have the higher up wandering around so we could crank it and rock out all night.

Good one! My faves are; Night Train, Sweet Child O' Mine and Don't You Cry Tonite.

Good stuff!

Another disappointing LP release was Jethro Tull's 'Stand Up'... this song was released as a single and got a lot of airplay, but didn't appear on an LP until a couple of years later, on the compilation album with the same title/name...

I didn't realize that both of the LP's in my posts today were released the same year until I searched for the songs!!
I guess the bands didn't expect to have hit singles at the time the albums were 1st compiled...

Back in the late 60's thru the mid 70's, the British bands LP's were released in the UK first, and then over here. A lot of times they had different songs on them, too, which made it really hard to decide which one to buy!! One time I bought both to have all of the songs... LOL!! And if I remember correctly, Traffic's 'Mr. Fantasy' came out with 3 different covers/titles along with different songs, too.

The Imports were better quality but usually cost a little more... the same with Mono vs Stereo, so some of my early LP's are Mono, including Hendrix's 1st one... It used to take me a whole month to save up to buy an album when I was a teenager!!

VERY cool, Kitty! You are a walking plethora of music information. Awesome! I bet we could sit down with a good pot of coffee or other beverage of your choice and have a killer Music conversation. :)

Keep'em coming!

#2. This is the second song that was always played and I became a big Human League fan for a couple of years. I thought the lead singer was super cool and the chicks were super hot. I spent about 3 hours in college with two cassette decks trying to merge the instrumental version of this song with the vocal version, creating an 8 minute blended version. Don't know what ever happened to that cassette.

#1. My senior year in high school I worked PT in fashion shows for a now defunct clothing store named Silvermans. They always played this song as we strutted around in parachute pants and shiny shirts.

Yea...I remember those parachute pants!

I use to wear them when we'd go out and hit the Clubs...then came the huge baggy MC Hammer pants! Couldn't do those though...:)

Good tune!

Oh yes...I remember them. Their music use to PACK the dance floors at the local ABC Lounges (remember those?) They did "Don't you Want Me" too if I'm not mistaken.

Yep...those were the days! :):toast:

Back when i was 3 i had a toy firetruck that had a fake cb radio in it when turned on it would play a local radio station,it would play for a minute or two and turn off when activated.well my favorite song was "lay down sally" i guess partly because my moms car was a mustang she called sally, anyways every time i turned it on it would play that song (im guessing it was a huge hit at the time) well one day i turned it on and it was playing something different i remember running to my mother crying that my firetruck was broken and her trying to explain to me that it was just a radio station and it was not broken...but ofc i was insisting it was in fact broken lol

I think I've gone through every song in this thread (well, that my computer will allow), "liked" the ones I liked, listened to the ones I've never heard before (surprisingly enough there weren't that many lol), read the stories and enjoyed it all very much. It's slow going on my computer, though. I hope people are actually sampling the videos and not just passing by... There's a lot of musical lovin' to be found in this thread! Nice contest thread, OP!

Thanks Avid!

I'm really enjoying the Contest myself! You know, when we get together like this and share our memories and musical tastes with each other...it adds such a human element to the thread. We've all had good times and bad times in our lives...and songs that connect a lot of those times in our minds. Each story and individual personalities shine from each one of us. We're no longer just a string of typed words on a screen.

And though many of us live miles apart and in different parts of the world...and may never meet face to face, we all share something in common when we're here on this particular thread! Music and Memories. I love it....and may just start a permanent thread...;)

All of the Fleetwood Mac talk a few pages ago reminded me of several things--including that I was forced to sing a karaoke version of "You Make Loving Fun" during my bachelor party. Now, my singing is best done in the shower (my wife disputes this--she thinks it should be outlawed everywhere) and only gets worse after many alcoholic beverages, so I was surprised when many people who were not part of the bachelor party came up to me and said that I was really good. There were three songs that my friends made me sing: the aforementioned one, "Don't You Want Me" by (yes) Human League, and this gem by Carl Douglas. (Perhaps even scarier--I didn't have to read the lyrics for any of the songs....).

Late one night many years ago my ex-husband wanted me to hear a certain song. He lit a candle and turned off the lights. I thought he was going to play something romantic to get me in the mood. We had quad speakers and when this song started playing it scared the daylight out of me and gave me goosebumps.
