Bob Seger grew up in Michigan not too far from where I grew up. He used to play local dances before moving up to larger venues in the area. He was a rock star in Michigan and his songs were played regularly on our big radio stations long before he became an "overnight sensation". I've seen him perform live 3 times since then. This was one of his most popular songs back in the day before he became nationally famous.

Yeah love Bob, I was born in Detroit (Motor City) been here in Co for over 30 years but grew up there in the 60's and lived in St Clare Shores all thru school and hung out in East Detroit (now eastpoint) a lot! Used to hear this on the juke box at a lil coffee shop place before school ea morn & then hop on my Triumph Bonneville and head to school...well usually wood by pass that & do something else & get together with my girl friend or something!
Bob Segar and The Last Heard! :) Love Heavy Music, well & all his songs!

Great song, one of his first. I grew up Downriver in Wyandotte, south of Detroit, and was a huge Seger fan. I used to know a guy who had a summer cottage up north in the same town as him. He told me they used to drink together in the local bar sometimes. Since you're an old time Seger fan you must remember his anti-Vietnam song, 2 + 2. Another great old Seger tune.

#1. I heard this song driving up to College with my Dad and had no idea how it was or the name of the song. A couple of months later, my roommate bought a new Album and low and behold on it was this song that I had continued to wonder about. Never listened to Bruce much before then, but I've been a huge fan ever since, and the Nebraska album remains my favorite album of all time. A great story teller.

PS. Also love the movie stars in this video, before they were movie stars.

I know the area very well and used to hear stories about Bob Seger & Ted Nugent having bordering properties from each other in northern Mi. I went to the Pontiac Silverdome when they very first built it and Seger was the first music concert they had, I have many, many memories of Michigan & Bob Segar and love 2+2! I'll play one that just came out when I saw him in Pontiac!
And this was it...maybe 1974?

Cheap Trick was popular in my school. One memory pops out, though. We had a teacher who would give us assignments by saying something like, "I want you to do problems 1-20." One day, Tim E. could not restrain himself and, when she paused after saying "I want you..." to check her notes, busted out with "... to want me!" To this day, I don't know what he got on that assignment...

Ha....great story and tune! Hmmm...kinda makes me wonder what he may have got after school! I love Cheap Trick. The "Live at Budokan" album is raw and packed with energy. Good stuff!

In the early 80's we saw Joan Jett and the Blackhearts in a small venue in Austin just before they became famous.

Awesome band!! Yep, I use to have a big crush on Joan when I was younger. She was the perfect example of a "Rock and Roll" Wife to me. Too bad she....well uhh...you know. That left me outta the picture!

#2. I could probably list many, many more Bruce songs, but I'll stick with one of his all time greats that helped to kick start his career.

Oh yea...The Boss! I didn't care too much for him in my teens then I actually listened to a lot of his material in my early 20's. WOW...blew me away! Jungleland, Born to Run, Tenth Ave. Freezeout, Rosalita....the list goes on and on. Incredible, heartfelt lyrics. Definitely a fave now! :)

Good choice!

But Ooo-oo-oo....THEY LOVE TO WATCH HER...STRUT! :toast:

We added that song to our set list a few months back...packs the dance floor! Bob is an incredible artist. Added Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield too. Don't knock it...it works!! It's all about selling beer!!

BTW, GREAT stories guys. I love it!

With the time change, my son's soccer practice ended in the dark. I was thinking about that and it triggered a memory of when I was playing soccer as a kid. I had practice on the same field and the time change meant that we got home after dark. I remember getting home and turning on the radio while doing some homework before dinner. This is one of the songs that I heard...

Great tune....almost haunting in a way. I remember that tune coming home from Spring Break in Daytona many years back. Dark stretch of highway...slightly drunken doing about 75mph and in an old Mercury Cougar. That tune really takes me back!

The very first album that I bought with my own money (rather than listening to my parent's records or asking for/receiving them as gifts) was Discovery by Electric Light Orchestra. Actually, I bought it as a cassette so that I could listen to it on my cheap Radio Shack tape recorder--which promptly ate the tape on this song. So, there I was: a kid fixing his cassette with scotch tape.... (Ironically, the end of this video--at around 3:50--almost sounds like they had a similar problem.)
