This one reminds me of my mother cause she thought it was so awful when it came out!

My Mom loved Loretta Lynn. She'd sing Coal Miner's Daughter while I played the guitar to it. Also she'd sing "Suspicious Minds" by Elvis....but that's another tale...

Ah, the 60's and The Rolling Stones. Love so many of their songs.

Like " Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man" Probably not many remember that one.

I really was "only thirteen" when this (their 2nd LP) came out... but I didn't "know how to nasty"... yet!!
(see the lyrics posted on the Youtube page to understand that reference... lol)

'Freak Out' was one of the 1st LPs I ever bought (when I was 12), along with a couple by The Stones, and my Mother didn't seem to mind it too much... but one day when I was listening to this, she came running into the room during a certain part that had some heavy breathing in it, screaming: "What are you listening to???!!!" LMAO!!!

(yes, I was a strange little kid, and grew up to be an even stranger adult... )​

Still thinking about FZ and The Mothers, I understood a line in this song better when I was a little older and frequenting some of the music venues in Hollywood.

The line goes:
"Maybe I could get a gig driving a bus and pick some freaks up in front of Ben Frank's, right??"

Turns out that Ben Frank(s) was not a friend of FZ's, as I previously thought, but a great 24-hour diner/deli on the Sunset Strip!! (I think it's a Mel's Drive-in now )

After the clubs closed, a lot of the night owls would either go there, or to the Denny's on Sunset... depending on how much money you had... LOL!! (Denny's being the cheaper of the two - ha!)

While all of my little friends were listening to The Monkees and watching their TV show, I never had any interest in them because I heard that they couldn't even play their own instruments... and besides, I was into much more 'progressive' stuff.

So it wasn't until many, many years later that I discovered this little gem, thanks to Youtube!!!

Rick Rosas, a longtime bassist with Neil Young, has died at 65. The cause of death, initially reported by fellow Young sideman Ralph Molina, is unknown at this time.

Remembering when this album first came out, (Freak Out) me & friends loving it. No one really knowing the great jazz musicians they really are. Frank & the Mothers, always one of my favorites all time, Thanks SK! Love how Dweezil brought out the music in honor of his father too!

Yes! The Stones are totally awesome. Ever hear the song "Down Home Girl"? Way, way back.... Mick states; " Lord I swear the perfume you wear was made out of turnip greens. And everytime I kiss you girl It tastes... ... It tastes like pork and beans." Good stuff!

Yes Indeed,

Zappa is a phenomenal artist. And his son Dweezil is a smokin' guitarist as well. As a big Steve Vai fan myself (who played with Frank) I occasionally go back and listen to FZ and TMOF. Good stuff!

I don't believe so... although they worked a lot together, the only thing I can think of that he was actually on (or at least credited on.. lol) was the Hot Rats LP, and that didn't come out until a couple of years later. That was one of my faves, too!!

Sadly, all of my Zappa vinyl disappeared somehow through the years, as did quite a few others, which is why I never liked having roommates!! (and the Freak Out LP was in MONO!!!)

One of my faves from Beefhearts' 1st LP...

Yeah! Just to relate, I know how that is...I lost a whole buncha FZ/Mothers albums (and I mean more than a dz) amongst a whole bunch of other GREAT original other albums in one of my moves and I can never really replace them, I now have many CD's but they just don't compare to the original vinyl!
