Had to order some spare parts from MMV the other day and ended up picking up a Poldiac/TNS hybrid on sale. It just arrived, and I don't think I realized just how big a 4mm wick hole was going to be. :D

For those that own one of these, do you set it up like a normal gennie? The first thing I try will likely be a 4mm id coil with a huge roll of mesh, but this almost seems like it will be comical.

For reference's sake, I typically have been using a DID or an RSST with mesh at around 1 ohm on a mech.

Looking for ideas on setups to try in this one. Thanks!

My ADED is a 30mm (26650) Persius. It has a wick hole around 3mm. When I first saw it it scared me a lil. Lol! I can't imagine anything bigger than that, but I would love to give it a try! The differece in cloud size from my Kracken to the Persius was night and day. I played around with horizontal coils, etc when I first got it, but I ended up with an old fashoined, vertical, right over the wick hole set up that works great.

Thanks for the response Hans!

Got this setup with a huge roll of mesh and coiled, however I don't have anything heavier than 28awg at home currently and with the id of the coil this just doesn't work out very well. :)

Looks like if I'm going to do a huge wick like this I'm going to either need to switch to duals, twist some wire up, or go shopping.

I've had best results with the least amount of wicking material. I think the first time I set it up I cut an A4-sheet of mesh length-wise and still couldn't make a solid wick fill out the chasm wick hole. Lots of heat-sinking. Not entirely pleasing.

The TNS is the one atty I use thicker wire for. 0.42mm (26 awg?) is what I use. I also use somewhat lower resistance. Roughly 0.6-7 ohm compared to my usual ~0.8 ohm setups. It's not for sake or low resistance. It's just for sake of getting a sound amount of coiling material. With 28 awg I end up with either a too hot or too cold/inefficient coil.

Also the "cinnabuzzwick" or what it ended up being called lends itself nicely to the TNS. If I'm not mistaken, the definition was something along the lines of "a straw wick with some air between the layers".

... oh... and... if anyone got any tips to dealing with the AFC ring... please let me know. It's a PITA to get off, and I'm not sure it qualifies as "adjustable" as much as "set-able" :D

Thanks for the info Watt!

I can definitely see the issue with the heat sink effect with that much stainless steel in the wick, I'll try using a smaller amount to give a looser roll and shoot for the cinnamon roll thingy. Are you still using a coil with an id that's about the same as the wick hole? or are you using a smaller coil and leaving some space between the wick hole and the wick?

I also have issues with the adjust-ability of the afc ring. Had a terrible time getting it off or adjusting it when doing my initial breakdown and setup. Maybe lubricating the o rings with some lip balm or petroleum jelly might help? I'll have to give it a try and will let you know if it helps significantly. It's been especially frustrating as I'm trying to wrap my head around how I will end up liking this thing set up.

Love the quality, and can tell that this will be a good one once I get it dialed in.

I do fill out the wick hole (outside of the wick). Else there be rain. Been there :p

Mine is usually set up for home use only, so it's not intended to be leak proof at all. Hence the veery straw-like wick.

Mine's been out of service for a couple of weeks awaiting a new setup. The current one was an experiment in sloppy wicking. Just a mess of tube-like jumbles on the inside of a mesh roll. Actually worked well enough for daily rotation until it gunked up.

Plan is to cut an L-like wick next. Sort of a straw wick that closes off at the top. If there's one atty you can literally pour liquids through a straw wick, this is it. My thinking is you won't even need decent wicking (read: even less mesh) if the wick is filled with e-liquid.

May have to give lip balm a go... once I get it off :D
