I'm starting to get interested in building a mod and i know pretty much all supplies needed can be bought at my local Radioshack but its the batteries that im confused about.

What I would like to do is build a mod using batteries I can purchase locally and cheap. Rather not have to order online for anything as it would be preferred to purchase anything locally incase of emergency.

Are there mods that use standard store bought AAA, AA or other regular batteries?

Can these batteres that you modders use be purchased from a store?

You can probably find the lithium ion batts at an electronics place, but price may be even higher than what you can find online. Buy a half-dozen or so and you're set. "Normal" AA mods would need at least 3 batteries to provide the same voltage as the battery that came with your e-cig.

Both ways provide longevity - the main reason for doing a mod.

If you're talking about the CR2/CR123 type batteries, those HAVE been used in several flashlight-type mods, I believe. Most of the nicostick-type mods use AA battery boxes and 14500 protected lithium batteries. Some have used a 4AA box with 3 'normal' alkaline or nicad batteries (3 x 1.2v) to make a nicostick mod with good results.

Don't even waste your time finding Li-ions locally, you wont find them, and if you do, they will be ridiculously expensive.

I'm not sure why you don't want to order online, at $2-$3 dollars a Li-ion battery, it makes no sense to search locally, but you can still use regular rechargeable AA or AAA batteries.

There are many mods in here showing how to make them and the options you have.

To be honest, I really am not one for ordering stuff online. I like the idea that if something were to happen (like a battery dying) to be able to run out, pick up what I need and be vaping in no time. The main reason for doing a mod is for backup or emergency. That is until I get the mod bug :)

Kinda like running out at 3am to get a pack of smokes. You know you're never gonna be without.

I order from deal extreme and buy several at a time. Free shipping and they are cheap. They take Paypal. That is a safe way to buy online.

For sure :)

When I get the bug, i'll probably go ape and get a bunch, but im just curious right now on a locally built mod. Suppose its all the talk about a ban coming info play maybe. I know they can't ban the hardware, but you never know.

Then your only option will be AA or AAA in a 3 or 4 battery box.

I have a 3 and a 4 x AA box and they work great.

Unless you want to pay a ton of money for non rechargeable CR123's, provided you can find them locally.
