Hey! New to the forum and community. I just recently picked up a mod set : reaulex rx200, velocity rda and 3 lgdbhe41865 (continuous 20A discharge i believe.) It currently states at the screen that it is 4.29V and 0.48 Ohms (kanthal build) and running at 40-50 Watts. Could anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? All these are brand new. Cheers!!

So there's a few possible sources.

Hand heat -- which is totally normal, and will happen if you're holding the device for a decent bit of time.

Heat transfer from the atomizer -- which is also relatively normal, and is just the metal of the atomizer transferring heat through its contact with the mod.

Heat from the batteries -- which is not normal, and is bad. Substantially bad.

Next time the mod gets hot, pop the batteries out or just feel them. Are the batteries themselves hot? Feel the atomizer, is the atomizer hot? Have you been holding the mod for a long time (5+ minutes)?

You should be able to narrow down the exact cause of the heat and then you'll be able to address it (or not address it) appropriately.

ETA: There could also be heat from the internals of the device, but if the device is operating properly that's really not likely to be the case. PCB's and stuff are more likely to simply stop functioning than overheat, and if they do overheat they're going to go up in a blaze of glory rather than slowly heat up over a long period of time.

Is my coil setup (0.48 Ohms) right for my battery discharge ? Or is it too high/low?

That's just fine for your setup, I vape around that range myself (.55 ohms @ 5V on 20A batteries in series).

You can use the Steam-Engine Ohm Law calculator to figure out how many amps you're pulling. I recommend playing with some numbers just to see what voltage/resistance pulls what amperage. It's not overly complicated once you have an idea of how it works.

The general rule is "50% headroom", so if your battery is 20A, try and stay in the 10A range. Personally I'm comfortable with ~25% headroom, but any more than that is a bit excessive and runs the risk of damaging the battery.

Also ideally, and I haven't heard of any failures from the RX200 yet, your mod won't let you fire something that will run the risk of damaging the internals or the batteries. It should (emphasis on should) be capable of preventing you from doing something silly that'd result in a catastrophic failure.

On a side note, I might pick up one of those RX200's. Used one yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the form factor. It is a heavy sucker though.

Our resident battery guru, @Mooch , is showing the HE4 battery as a 20 amp cell, but his chart shows light yellow caution in the 20 amp range, meaning letting it get that hot is shortening its life, and gradually increasing risk of venting or runaway. As has been said: if the mod is getting warm from your hand, or conduction from the atomizer, this is normal and not a problem. It the batteries are getting hot, that's a serious problem. What it might be, I can't tell from your description, except I don't think 4 hits and rest is too high a duty cycle. Bad battery cell, maybe, or maybe a bad mod. But if the batteries are getting hot, I'd be worried.

Too high or too low???? No or maybe not. But the amount and gauge of wire you use to make that coil could change this answer.
Tell us a little more about your coil(s). Big difference in HEAT with 28 gauge @ .48ohms vs 24 gauge. even more difference when more than 1 wire is used to make a coil.

I've used your resistance/wattage with 1 battery rigs with no ill effects.
Are your batteries married? I've heard some complaints about charging internally. I'd consider a seperate external charger..

Hey yup they are. Ive found out that my battery isnt the one heating up but heavily on my tanks and rda. Able to help me out? And how do i even upload a picture of my setup to share, they only have a maximum of 1mb

Hello, after checking the problem, i come to a conclusion that the velocity rda is heating up super quick thus making my mod hot too. What is the problem and how do i solve this. Cheers!
I have the same setup pretty much, is it just the front of the mod getting hot? just pop off the back door and feel the batteries if they are not hot then you are good.

Never heard of those batteries. What is the resistance of your coil(s)

The batteries may not be able to Fire the build you are using.

Move to a different gauge of wire, switch to a single coil, build to a higher resistance, or switch to a different atty.

You're well within the amp limits of your batteries with your build at 50w. It's about 10amps.

I have a Velocity style RDA made by Tobecco. It also gets hot, especially with the build that have in there and the heat will transfer to my mod. As stated above try a different build if this I worrying you and maybe a Heat Sink that you can screw to the bottom of you Velocity. They do help.

More airflow would help cool the coils too.

The OP never said where the coils were located. Are they in a place where the air can hit more of the coils.
