If they are finished in the raw, look like bare metal. Then they may have just been clear coated. Paint or clear comes off best at edges and of course the bottom since it has contact with other surfaces.

Could be the mod reacting with cleaners on couch or possibly sweat/oils from your hands causing the reaction to start.

EDIT: Basically oxidation/tarnishing
Yes it doesn't look like bare aluminum, so looking at it, must have some kind of coating, but it's all the same even on the inside of mod. Looking closely at the tiny scratches on bottom, that part is slightly shinier

Ok, so I kind of jumped the gun on this thread, because what it is, is just the one mod that's in the leather skin......it's a custom engraved leather skin housing a certain mod, like a reddish brown and it's staining the couch...it's not wet , it's just staining it . In 1 minute it makes a nasty mark...I use this set up alot, but I guess until yesterday I never put it on the couch. I just assumed it was my other mods doing it. It's just super weird that it can stain so bad

My guess is that oils from your hands are getting on the leather cover of the mod. Then when placed on the couch the oils are transferring to the couch and taking some dye with it. Red dyes are REALLY bad about that, which is why you wash new red clothes by themselves a few times so that all loose dye is leeched out. To that end, you might consider taking that red leather cover off the mod and washing it really good and see if that helps. Of course if the dye isn't set well you could end up washing off all the dye or enough to make it look bad. Another possible option is to try and find some coating you could put on to seal it, to prevent the red from leeching off.

Your right, something like perhaps a new pair of jeans.... its quite old though, but perhaps a little juice did get on the bottom, which loosened up the dyes....

yes brother, all of the above, that's me :) I'm still around and remember you well too but since becoming a vendor making my own mods I have not been posting too much outside of my own thread as this seems to be discouraged by ECF sometimes as self promotion or promoting outside of my own threads. there are even some areas that I am not even allowed to post in at all anymore, no more helping n00bs allowed or posting in regulated devices, stuff like that, so I just stay quite in my own little corner :p
