Modders Inspiration : Interview with Pedro Carvalho (Caravela Mods)

I came across this video while searching for Caravela mod reviews, and was blown away by a few facts shared by Pedro Carvalho ... mainly that he was BANNED FROM ECF shortly after he joined this site so that he could share his first creation (which he is not the least bit bitter about) ... who knew?

He shares many interesting facts regarding his journey into the world of mod building, from his humble beginnings, to the unexpected success of the Caravela. I thought I would share this here, and that perhaps it would serve as an inspiration to the Mod builders of the future here on ECF ... I hope someone gets something motivating out of it!

This is not a modders inspirational video at all.....it is an advertisement video and a slam to ECF.....As a hobby modder I find this thread offensive to all modders who actually build mods as a hobby.....the mod in this video was manufactured by companies hired to make the mod from drawings provided to them, thus the person was designing a commercial mod to be sold from the beginning.....

Sorry to be so blunt but as a modder this video should not be described as an inspirational video for future modders....

Starting at 11 minutes and 15 seconds of the video he talks about coming to ECF ...... and was banned..... offering to sell while not being a supplier.... this also offends me that this advertisement video is here advertising his product.....and in the modders forum, no less...

My rant is over and you may not agree with me, but this is my opinion of this video....

Get over it. He said he understood how it works over here and was fairly cordial about the matter, it was nice to hear the backstory.

he was a noob, and he mentioned the thought of possibly selling, and then bam he was banned.

hell I once made the mistake of mentioning something along the lines of building more than one of something when I was asked and the next thing I knew I got a slap on the wrist too as "pre-selling". but I was already a veteran of a few years and I only got a friendly reminder, but if I was a noob I would have possibly been banned myself so go figure.... in the meanwhile, just pay $50 and get vendor status, it's as simple as that.

is there any modders out there that you know of who build to sell, and sell elsewhere too, but still use ecf to drive up demand for their products and promote them without actually even being a vendor here? hell I'd call that more "offensive" than anything this guy has said, not that I really care so much what others do really...

you also fault him for using pro's for the professional machine work, interesting. so he'd be more to your liking if he just stuck some hacked up guts in a disposable container and called it a mod because then he did it himself? some people want awesome and sometimes knowing your limitations and knowing how to have something professionally done is the best way to get it done. he designed, commissioned and refined and developed a mod that is far superior to most diy mods out there, that's for sure. without him that mod wouldn't exist so I still give him credit for "building" it, sometimes knowing the best way to build something gives better results than just doing the best you can by yourself and getting results that truly show that you are not exactly the best at doing that in the first place. that's the difference between a pro and an amateur, are you saying only amateurs can really be considered modders? I don't know, I mean I build mods as a hobby, for myself only really at this point, and I'm not offended so much by his interview. not sure what you are so offended by?

he-he....... one little rant to liven things up a month ago and you finally decide you want to rant a bit also.....see we all rant sometimes...your rant is noted....LOL....carry on my friend.....you probably feel better now that you got your rant out....

and as I said before...... My rant is over and you may not agree with me, but this is my opinion of this video....and you gave your opinion.....so I guess we both are opinionated....

ha, more than fair enough I didn't even realize that post wasn't fresh seeing so few responses and seeing the thread pop up in new posts.

I still just don't get where you see what you see there but hey, my rant is done too
