mxbnwcan i reccomend something? these atties are made out of chrome plated brass and some of crome plated copper. to be safe. order some 16 gauge ss tubing. drill it to get a press fit around the 16 g press that in and leave the tube a lil longer on top. this way the juice doent come into contact with the bare brass or god forbit copper. just looking out

I was thinking about that and have some SS tubing in the shop :) this was the fist one I drilled out to see if it could be done.

Its not as easy as it looks the small pos section is a bugger to drill out and I got a full mill and Rotary Indexing Table with Chuck.

I did a full tare down on the atty. The hard part was not drilling it it was holding that tiny end peace

Took longer to set up then to drill out.

did you dis assemble the atty. because the pin is a two piece pin take them apart and drill on the chuck. just go slow it is soft so it wont be hard to drill

I'd be willing to bet the people making the Phoenix will be doing a BF Phoenix very soon, if not someone else will,,, these Atty' are priced right and more then fair then many of the others, ERA is nice but $55 is 3 x to much for them ( though I am getting a couple ) still the Phoenix is the one and I think the Chinese manufactures are going to start spitting these things out like wild fire soon enough, dont drive yourself crazy on modding just be patient there coming,,,,,, MXBMW = is a modding fool, like myself, and where just 2 vape nuts :laugh: I say hang tight a bit and you will see these cheap :) No pun intended Wayne :) hahahah

I'm not so confident that the Chinese will be mass producing bottom feed rebuildables. If you look at what they've been producing, its all geared to work with their own PV's. Even the TCB and the Vivi Tank are meant to be used on things like the VMAX and EGOS. As far as I know, China does not produce a bottom feeder, except for the Boge Revolution, and judging by the discussions here, that doesn't seem to be anywhere near their most popular device. To me, I would think China might not consider that a worth while investment. That being said, I'm not entirely sure who makes the Phoenix, but I suspect by the price and availability its a mass produced item.

I think we've all gotten lucky that most commercial attys have had open center posts. I don't think the Chinese had bottom feeders in mind when that design choice was made.

Actually the point of the open center post on most atties is so they can be used on auto batteries.

Yep its tight but it fits.

One issue I have found is for some reason on the one I moded I am getting a short. I am sure it is something simple but need to look in to it before moving forward.

I should have time this weekend to go over it.

does the pheonix fit in the juice well on a reo grand?

I got mine to feed but I have a short in it so be careful or you will claps the spring in the Grand

Do you have the vids showing how to take it apart.

FYI: the pos pin is in two peaces. I was going to solder them together next run and drill it out as one peace. and and the brass tube as per urquidezj suggestion Post #23

Sweet thanx for the info... I'm going to try this out when I get my pheonix's

I may take a differaint aproach all together. I'm thinking of just drilling a small hole in the bottom rite beside the conection. I figure my reo has a juice well and if the juice can't go up the centerpost it will just well up in the well and I can suck it up into the whole to my wicks. Idk if it will work cuz I don't have my pheonix yet... but in therory it should and be the easiest way to mod it for my reo grand. I just hope it don't make a mess by sqwoshing out around the bottom... maybe I might need a o-ring.

Good and bad news...

I drilled though the pin no problem with a 1/16th bit. Washed it out, put it on my Grand and verified that it does indeed feed juice very well. Set it up with a 1.6Ω coil, tested on my Provari and it fired up nicely. Everything looked great so I put it back on the Grand and hit the button. Immediately got a melted spring. Must have had a short in there, but it fired up fine just before that on the Pro so I'm not sure what happened. I'm so close, but now I'm scared of trying it again. I suspect it just needs a new coil, but how can I make sure that even if everything reads fine on the Pro I'm not gonna blow another spring on the Grand?

Has anyone fired a Phoenix on the reo before modding it? Is it possible they didn't machine the connection on the Phoenix rite and when u screw it down on the reo it somehow causes a short? I say this cuz the center pin on the reo kinda looks larger then on my SB or Omega. So if the threading wall on the Phoenix is thicker then on a regular atty it could be touching the center pin on the reo. Idk I'm just guessing here... I wont have my Phoenix till next week.

I will be taking a good look at this over the weekend. It has to be something simple.

I may send on of my Phoenix attys to Rob to see if he can find out why it shorts out. I will toss a Unmodded one on a Grand today and see if I get the short.

I have a ton of springs so If I lose a spring its not a big deal.

O.K. afer all this talk about the phoenix on a reo, I had to try it. I have a reo woodvill 18490 ebony and quilted maple, screwed it on and nothing, so I took off my 3 ml bottle and took a small screwdriver and put it in the tube hole and pushed up the center pin and she vapes like a dream!!! I was so freaked out about the spring melting but all is good. Now its time for some drilling to feed this baby. A video would be nice before I screw something up!

So, you raised the center pin on your Reo, right? Just trying to visualize what you said.
