I am trying to think of how to make the 'smallest' possible standard AA rechargeable size Nimah battery driven penstyle atty. I have found that RN 4072 work ok with 3 AA batteries and my idea is something like an arrangement in this picture......I just can't seem to think of how to make a simple case that would hold it all together, make the connections and have a button.

an arrangement like that would be small enough to be virtually completely hidden in my hand and have about 2 days of vaping out of charged batteries. It seems to me that a four AA battery box would have the potential to be modded but I can't seem to find one with that particular square arrangement for the batteries.

Are those just standard average store bought AA batteries you're using?

I only stood those batteries beside the atty just to give an idea of the arrangement I was thinking about...but I will be using standard AA sized rechargeable's. It should end up being really small yet still have a long battery life.

I did mod my mini pipe to have a button and take any type of penstyle atty, it was as small as I wanted for vaping in public but the batteries degrade quite quickly after a few charges and no longer last for more than an hour or two...and I can't afford to keep on buying those at £7 a time. I want something small that easily lasts for at least a day. So I am thinking something like this would be great.

Drop the AA's and get some dilithium crystals. This should free up considerable space and allow your mod to at least reach max impulse if not warp speed.

'Tis said; "One can't reach Warp speed sans RCA connectors".

You're welcome. It was no tribble at all, Captain. =)

I have been messing around with a larger single cell battery holder since I started this thread and it holds all three AA batteries and the atty ...it's actually a bit longer than it needs to be, but up against my hand it gives the idea of just how small it will be. It should almost be invisible in my hand and yet with three 2000mah AA batteries will very easily last for a whole day if not two.

In essence, a slightly higher voltage JS that uses standard rechargeable AAs. I'm watching this thread closely, Pete. Good luck.

I would but you're out of our long range sensor range, are you cloaked?

Sorry for the Trek jokes, been re-watching all the series lately. On the final stint DS9 then Enterprise (I skipped DS9 in lieu of Voyager, I like that show a bit more).

We need a William Shatner mod. Dude, if you make a Kirk or Picard mod it would revolutionize the industry.

I am a bit of a treckie myself ....and voyager is also my favourite. The are reshowing the series here and I missed most of the episodes the last time around so it's great.

Ok so this morning I have made a really crappy but working prototype out of the battery box I already had. Although there was no reason to think it wouldn't work, there's nothing like actually having it working.........and it works a treat, I have been using my 801 atty with it. I think this kind of mod is something a manufacturer should be developing ...the size is brilliantly small but it still has the power to run for more than a full day on freshly charged batteries. A manufacturer could very easily make and sell a really classy version of this for less than £20 and still make a good profit out of it. The small size but loads of battery power would sell it. I was never going to be vaping with my soldering Iron mod in public...lol but this is small enough to vape in public without feeling stupid and works just as good and I don't think there is much chance of any explosions with standard AA nimah rechargeable batteries.

Man, I really like that ! I've been looking for something super small like that for a while now....like the super tiny cisco mods. But the switch arrangement and longevity have me stumped so far. I'm liking it !

Hi bruce....I have made it so that the attomizer is a fairly tight fit and just slides down onto a pin for the centre battery connection and then I have a piece of bendy copper fixed so that I can simply press it against the side of the atty for the other connection. It should last for ages. It's not pretty but it works! I don't think there is a way to make anything smaller with that much cheap battery power and the luxury of a penstyle atty. It virtually only looks like I am putting my hand to my mouth to yawn or cough its so well hidden. I am thinking some kind of nylon pouch with a velcro flap could cover it and make it look better.

Interesting idea, Pete - I take it that's a 4aa square (looking from the top) battery holder?

no mike it was a small square single C? cell battery holder, which was a fair bit of messing about to convert for the connections but I am going to get a proper 4 AA square battery holder and do a better job of it when I get around to it, that would actually make it slightly shorter so even smaller!! I have been wanting something really discrete for public vaping but haven't wanted to sacrifice any battery power or use expensive batteries. This seems to be just perfect.

I wish they still made the 4aa enclosed boxes like that - I remember some toys as a kid that had them - that seems like it would be almost perfect for modding.

3 x nimh and an atomizer with a buried, push-to-make mounting in an enclosed box would be SWEET.

Yes I can also vaguely remember some toys when I was a kid used to have the perfect square 4 aa box but at least Bruce pointed me to where I can get some 4 AA square holders that will still do the job, albeit not quite as attractive as a decent box would have been.
