Here we go! I've been vaping for 2 months now. Thanks to all of you guys and countless hours browsing the forums, I feel that I have a pretty solid basic understanding of how this all works. Now onto my questions...

I started out with a manual starter kit from V4L. I quickly learned that my 10 years of menthol light pack a day smoking routine was going to require more than a couple regular manual batteries. So i grew my lil collection by adding 3 manual XL batteries. The problem is, it seems like now 2 months later it's taking these batteries longer n longer to charge. And once they are charged, they don't last as long as they should. Also, I've found some inconsistencies in quality amongst the blank carto's (only using cool carts from V4L thus far).

I think the 2 piece cartomizer style e-cig is the absolute best as it seems messing with atomizers and cartidges would be too much hassle for me. In my quest for looong lasting batteries that are compatible with long-lasting cartomizers, should I try to start doing some type of modding to the V4L XL batts (if thats even possible) or start from scatch and go with a different supplier (808 batteries I think) all together? Your help is much appreciated!

Hi K2lady

Since the e-cig batteries are lithium ion, they do have a normal lifecycle like
any battery found in a cell phone or laptop computer.

I read recently that they are typically good for 300 cycles (charging/use).

V4L is a '808' style mini e-cig. Meaning it uses the 808 threads and looks about
the same size as a tobacco cigarette.

For longer life, you would need a longer battery or a fatter battery. The XL is
the longest I've seen in the mini diameter (9mm).

Modifying a manufactured 808 battery is probably not an option.

But you can get longer life 'fat' batteries to use with your existing cartomizers
and probably even your chargers.

I've found this blog from Doctor Vapor to be helpful...

The “Best” Electronic Cigarette | Vaping Guides

Doc explains all this very well.

An 808 fat batt he suggests is the Elegant Easy.

"For the KR808D-1 cartomizer and 901 atty: the 750 mAh 3.5V Elegant Easy."

Hope that helps.

My best advice:
do the research and find something that you think is MORE than you need. Don't worry so much if it requires different cartos or attys.
For best battery life and cheapest batteries get away from the "ecig" batteries and go with "mod" class stuff.

I would have saved myself about $250 or so if I had listened to suggestions like that. ;)

I would suggest a "bottom feed" mod like the REO, Phidias, or Ali'i. No carts or cartos to fill. Check the out using a search here on ECF. They are the truly no hassle way to vape.

Indeed....and the 18650 batteries can go up to 3 days of HEAVY vaping before they need to be recharged. Do yourself a favor and find a vaporizer than takes an 18650!

Thanks for the link to VapingGuides, dragginfly! To clarify, as much as I admire Doctor Vapor and his great tutorial videos, that article was written by some guy named DonDaBoomVape;), and it appears on a website (using blog-type software) produced by Don (not Doc) and CyberWolf.

For more information on the Elegant (for which there is now a 1300 mAh version), check out http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...101915-cigeasy-s-kr8-elegant-ego-rest-us.html, written by that same DaBoom guy.

I knew the blog was DaBoom somebody at ECF. But somewhere along the
line I made a leap in my mind that you are the 'blog guy' as well as the
'doctor guy' in the video.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. :~)

"Branding" is an interesting business.

Note to self:

DonDaBoom = blog guy

DoctorVaper = video guy

Thanks for all the super helpful advice and links everyone! I'm going to keep doing my research but a fat batt seems like the way to go. I just have to figure out which (if any) models will fit on my V4L chargers..I now have 3 of them and want to continue putting them to good use. It looks like the Elegant Easy XXL should fit. Do these fat batts weight significantly more than the pen style models? Also, I'm seeing these batts come with a customized cone designed for cartomizers...what are those for?

You can get the Indulgence mod and the extra tube that holds the 18650 battery that was explained earlier in this thread for a pretty good price and it comes with all the adapters needed for any type of atomizer or cartomizer. You can find them at East Mall or at Vapor Junction I believe and probably some other places, but these are the only ones I know of off the top of my head. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, because sometimes I am lol. :)

I've gone from being slightly hurt (not getting credit for my work:() to being flattered (thinking I could do those great videos:)). Thanks!

[I will choose not to be offended by "DaBoom somebody.";)]

I am not worthy !!!! LOL….As much as I admire and respect DonDaBoomVape, and his contributions to the knowledge base of vapers all over the world, I cannot take credit for his work. That blog is collected knowledge of DonDaBoomVape and not I. However, that blog is a great read as Don has forgotten more about vaping than most people ever knew. Don’s articles have been a huge help to me during my time as a vaper and I keep several of them bookmarked and give them out to people both old and new.

Keep on rock’in Don.
