On the model number, most of them refer to the whole ecig, so in 808d-1 it's the combo of battery and carto. I see how that can be confusing thinking the model could refer to one of the parts. The bmf batteries and cartos both have a number of improvements from the original 808d-1 design, relatively well documented here.
Awesome on the diy stuff! I'm an avid diy'er myself. Right now I'm playing with making my own juice starting from tobacco to get the other alkaloids other than just nicotine (called WTA for Whole Tobacco Alkaloid if you want to search the forums for some info). I rolled my own smokes for quite a while, so I'm hoping I'll figure out how to nail the flavor and smell of a freshly opened pouch of drum or bali shag tobacco. But I have a feeling by the time I get to that point that I'll be so over tobacco that I'll have to start flavor mixing myself though.
