The only thing possibly bad about throwing it in water is that Lithium will react very strongly with water (and release a ton of hydrogen in the process).

Look at this idiot, for example (who peeled a battery for the lithium):

Yeah I like Bad's toss it and stand back idea better. No noxious gases outside of what it is already emitting. We could always treat it like the Killer Bunny

But on a serious note, at least we know what to do if the battery goes into thermal runaway. It never hurts to be prepared to react.

My first reaction would be to throw it in a sink, hit the cold water tap, and hightail it around the corner. I vape inside most of the time. Outside, I'd just toss it and create some buffer space.

Not about to read all this.

The warnings are appropriate.
Skilled users can and will understand the warnings. However, like a Race Car Driver, they may choose to go to the limits. The Skilled Know it is possible and they should know there ARE risk involved.

For the New and/or inexperienced builder the Warnings Are critical and need to be understood for their safety and EDUCATION.

Now, Mods have gotten better in build quality. Even many Clones are built better than some Early Original Mods(converted flashlights:ohmy:)
Battery Technology has improved dramatically. Unfortunately, Most new users would not know a FAKE of a high end battery if it bit them. This IS a Danger. You can brag all you want about Sony VTC5, but if it is a Lithium in disguise Trouble is just a few button presses away.

My Disclaimer - I have no problem with anyone Sub-ohm vaping. I sub-ohm Vape on occasion.
I could care less if someone Vaped on Quad Coils at .1ohm as long as everything is built Correctly and Powered appropriately.
There lies the problem.
A meter correct enough to Verify the Build.
A Mod designed to Support such a build.
A Battery Designed to operate at that Load - SAFELY

Simple - Stupid - Comments like - IT is SAFE, I do it all the time are just Blow hard ignorant assumptions!
People light Grills with Gas all the time........................... Does NOT mean it is SAFE. They are just lucky(so far)

I subohm vape myself, very moderately though (0.8 regular, max 0.5 when I'm feeling my mid-age crisis approaching - and there isn't an excavator, the manliest machine around, nearby). But, race car drivers will have all the safety gear they can have on them. They'll pretty much be fire proof. "Extreme vapers" have non of that. They're pretty much the Jack ...(es) (tm) of the vaping crowd. Stupid and only interested in getting posts and likes (I know plenty of you will get that reference).

My sentiment is that whether you believe a mech will vent or explode or not doesn't make a difference, we are careful because we do not want to add any fuel to the fire of the organizations out there that want us out and that means taking every precaution for the just in case.

Honestly, I really don't care about regulations (in Sweden we'll get them anyway). I care about not hurting myself, and I try to help others not get hurt when I can

From the looks of his eyes and his dazed reaction to the battery mishap I have to wonder what he was smoking before he vaped that super sub ohm coil. He was more worried about having to wash the battery gunk off the wall than the possibility that it could have changed the shape of his face.

Screw that... I would at the very least never get to the point where I need a towel to touch my mod.... Honestly...

Well I would never do crazy builds like that...0.04.... wow... come on. what can you achieve at that build that cant be achived at higher builds?
thats just dumb.

His face coulda blown up....

He looked so confused...

Im going to get my brother to watch this before I give him his mechanical mod kit for Xmas

Can someone tell me what a mod is and if i can use this with enegizer or duracel AA stacked? And point me to the direction of how to build a .001 or lower quintuplet octagonal coil thingy?

I will bet money that there is someone out there RIGHT NOW trying to do just that with a Puck. (Is the Puck still something people know about? I know it was popular a couple years ago)

I had an Ego T 600mah battery that I had not used in a while and it was about 7 months old (there was snow on the ground I think it was around February). I had not used it in a while because the inner threads had stripped, but I had gotten some tanks that outer threaded and decided to see if it worked. I was amazed when it twisted on, and was excited that it even still worked! (dummy) After pressing the fire button about 5 times (5 vape hits) with time in between I noticed that the battery was getting hot. By the time I got from my living room floor to the porch outside it was making a fizzing noise and had gotten so hot that I immediately threw it into the snow! Before I tried it I thought to myself that I should just throw it away....but I stupidly decided to see if it still worked. I did not get injured. Later that night I went out to check on it, and the top of the battery had popped open (It did not explode it just popped open at the seem, I assume from me throwing it). I had my bf take it with him and dispose of it properly. I was at fault on that, because I should have just thrown it away.

While not entirely on subject, I had an MNKE 26650 die on me a few nights back, posted about it earlier here.

Fasttech 30mm Kayfun Lite on top of a Mutant 26650 clone. The positive pad on the KFL deck was loose. I thought I'd got it tightened up properly, but obviously didn't. It twisted just enough to touch the negative, so when I fired it the Mutant the body flash-heated the inside of the mod tube.. REALLY quickly at one particular point near the top that I was holding. I can't see any change in the body of the battery, but it won't fire or charge.

Simple mistake, invaluable lesson.

Sub ohm vaping is more popular than it's ever been in the history of vaping. Mechanicals are more popular than they've ever been in the history of vaping. "Exploding" batteries are more rare than they've ever been in the history if vaping. There used to be weekly reports of egos shooting off of chargers like bottle rockets. Nobody was a safety advocate then. Actually, they were; they just told you to buy a nicer regulated mod because the Chinese were dangerous. It's all bull.... fear mongering.

You have a better chance of being struck by lightning while hot boxing a Newport and riding a bike than you do by having a mechanical "explode."

Batteries have limits for a reason. What's the harm in making sure people know about it? Better safe than sorry? I think so. I use a mech everyday and that won't change.

I never said any of this wasn't the case. Of course batteries have limits. The exaggeration and hyperbole is what I have a problem with. Words like "explode" and "pipe bomb" are disingenuous, to say the least.
