My current variable voltage mod list these safety features:

  • Short circuit protection, OLED flash and display "0.0 ohm"
  • Atomizer open circuit, OLED flash and display "9.9ohm"
  • Cell reverse protection
  • PCB over temperature protection
  • 10 second overtime usage protection, no power output and OLED display "10S OVER"
  • Cell capacity protection, when cell capacity drop too low, cell indicator will flash\\

Would these prevent a battery explosion if they were working correctly?

Sure! In a perfect world. But we or the world isn't perfect.
Under normal use you'll have no problems.

Make a user mistake like charging with an adapter that supplies more than 5 volts...you'll probably have an issue.

Leave your device/battery in a hot car (it's like an oven in there)....you'll probably have an issue.

Your device falls into the fire....you'll probably have an issue.

The wrap on the replaceable battery is torn or has a hole in it...you'll probably have an issue.

There needs to be a certain level of understanding WRT battery safety over all. This applies to batteries in general not just ecigs. Cheers.

Agreed. With everything.
The problem is that people feel they are indestructible with their regs.
The direct short with a torn battery wrapper is a major concern.

Learn to rewrap. Super easy, super cheap. Nice and safe.
A hairdryer & shrink wrap. Done.
And don't forget your insulator.

I've got a question. I think I've asked it before and not got an answer. Maybe someone here knows.

Is there any way of figuring out the condition of your battery, whether it's separate or built in? Seems like there should be something you could do with a multi meter to give you that information but I'm not too well up on this stuff.

This is stealing Reikihealer's thread but I think she's gotten her answer. I know when I was using Nicad batteries for RC models the way we tested them were through the use of recycler's which would charge them up and then automatically drain them back down while keeping track of their power curve and time it took them to drain. Maybe someone here with experience with Lipo's can tell us if the same sort of test would be appropriate.

You should always do a routine physical inspection of your battery. Take note of the protective plastic wrap surrounding the cell for nicks, cuts, or tears; any metal showing can cause a short. Also inspect the "doughnut" insulator ring on the positive end. Replace the wrap or doughnut ring if damaged; vendors sell both.

So yes, I totally agree.

But who is doing the educating on these matters?
I don't see the media doing it.

And more importantly, I'm not seeing the vendors doing it.
Well, some are, but yeah.

This is stealing Reikihealer's thread but I think she's gotten her answer. Maybe someone here with experience with Lipo's can tell us if the same sort of test would be appropriate.

That is done primarily to "condition" the battery. It is/was necessary to go through complete charge/discharge cycles with NiCad batteries due to the "memory effect" of those batteries. Recharging a partially charged Nicad would result in declines in full charge. Li batteries do not have memory issues and can safely be recharged at any point in the discharge cycle without affecting the total charge held by the battery.

I go by what the manufacturer states. If they say use a charger rated at X amps or less then that's what I use. They know the ratings of their device and battery better than I do. I follow the manufacturers operating instructions for equipment I work with in the power industry as an electrical/controls engineer for the same reason - it's safer that way :)

The 2600 mah capacity of Moto Plus gives its user a total vape time of around 7 hours. The battery is also equipped with over charge protection so if the battery is fully charged and still plugged in, it will cut off charging automatically elliminating the risk of over charging. The charging light will also shut off to stop the battery from draining while not being used. Moto plus battery can be charged through the micro USB port located at the bottom end of the battery. The battery should be charged with a 1.0A or 1.5A charger.

Do not use anything over 1.5A to charge the battery. Moto Plus battery has the pass-through technology, so it can be used while still being charged. The USB port is placed to the side of the battery which allows the users to easily vape while the battery is still being charged. However to ensure a long life of your Moto Plus kit we do not recommend using the battery while its being charged.
