Okay. I've been vaping since July. At first I was taking in way too much, I actually was overdosing on the nicotine. I fixed that problem, moved down to 18mg juice. I haven't had any of the issues I had before, the getting dizzy and the overall weird felling. But I've noticed I've started craving my ecig a lot more at work (we can't smoke them in the building anymore) and I seem to be puffing all the time when I can. The only real problem I was having is dehydration, which I found is a common problem. But I don't drink water as it is, so this was a good thing imo, cause now I'm drinking water. I'm noticing my bottles run out faster, I'm going through a lot more. And now I'm having pains in what I would assume are my lungs. sometimes sharp, sometimes dull. I didn't have these pains as a cig smoker, and I feel overall much healthier than when I smoked, but the pains in my lungs make me wonder. I read that nicotine itself can cause a tightening in the lungs, so maybe that's it? Is this something anyone else has experienced? I don't plan on quitting, I don't have a want for that at all, I'm just wanting to know if this is ecig related or not.

I don't get pains in my lungs but I get a heavy feeling in my chest from too much VG. I almost stopped running (didn't associate it with vaping) until I read other runners mentioning the same thing in the Health section. Reduced the VG in one of my juices and I was fine. My other all day juice is PG.

The only time I thought I was vaping too much was when I reduced nicotine too much. The craving is basically for nicotine.

I actually think vaping is less addicting than cigarettes. Or I am much less addicted now. I can really go for most of the day if I have to not vaping and it doesn't really bother me. I couldn't do that when I was smoking.

I think some heavy vapers need to go easy with VG.

The pain just might be too much water - that is, actually your stomach complaining. You might feel thirsty, but you dont really need lots of extra fluids.

Try less lung / deep inhale; its really not necessary. Exhale slowly through nose to get more hit, if you don't already.

Hi

Can you give us a little more background. You have only been at this four months-ish so it could be many things.

How long did you smoke and how much/packs a day?

What mg juice before you dropped to 18 mg?

Is it 100% PG, VG or a blend?

Can you elaborate on that "now I'm having pains in what I would assume are my lungs. sometimes sharp, sometimes dull." When you vape? When you are breathing normally? Where is it located?

How do you vape? Do you just take it into your mouth & throat or do you inhale deeply into your lungs?

Any "coughing up a lung" fits going on since you quit smoking?

And, of course, see a Doctor or use an ER is you believe this is a problem that needs immediate intervention.

I'm gonna back up the "go see a doctor" comments- is it vaping related? How the hell should I know.

But chest pains are best NOT ignored.

That said- it could be any number of things, most of which aren't serious. (Some potentially vaping related, some not.)

More addicting? I tend to think the contrary- I'm less dependent on this than I was on cigarettes. (If I have to skip vaping, I don't feel nearly so grouchy.)

But I'm still addicted.

And remember, you get much less nicotine from a single puff of an ecig than you do from a cigarette. Many of us (ME! And you too, from the sound of it) compensate for this by vaping more constantly than we smoked.

When I was smoking, I used to smoke three cigarettes every morning- one just before entering work, and one on each break. Now, I tend to vape all morning, at least every 15 minutes or so. But I tend to take one drag, put it down, take another, etc. Probably (possibly) getting less nic than when I was smoking. Or not. But who's counting.

Certainly feel better than I did while smoking, and never feeling desperate for it...

Best,
Ande

@Rickajho

How long did you smoke and how much/packs a day? I smoked for 8 years.

What mg juice before you dropped to 18 mg? I was on 32 mg.

Is it 100% PG, VG or a blend? A blend. I use Ms T's. They won't tell me what the blend is, I already asked.

It happens more often when I vape, but I'm not sure. It hurts on the sides of my body and right below my.. bust.. I guess that's the best word.

How do you vape? Do you just take it into your mouth & throat or do you inhale deeply into your lungs? I do both, I mostly inhale to my lungs just like when I smoked.

Any "coughing up a lung" fits going on since you quit smoking? Nope.

When I started vaping 2 years ago, my juice was 100% PG. Within about a month I began experiencing severe tongue and lung pain. When I stopped vaping, it cleared up. I started again, and the pains started again...stopped and all was well, again. Changing to 100% VG allowed me to vape again, pain free.

Now, I'm finding that PG/VG mixes are no problem, and when I have the choice, I go for between 80/20 to 60/40 - PG/VG mix.

If you need to see a doctor, by all means go see a doctor. On the other hand, if the discomfort is following something else you've recently begun (such as vaping), drop that 'something else' long enough to see if THAT is where the problem originates. If the discomfort goes away, it's time to modify something - probably your juice base. (I do NOT order from a vendor that doesn't tell me the PG/VG mix they use.)

Good luck!

I don't know anything about this vendor, but I find it very odd they won't tell you the PG/VG blend they're using. I've never even seen a juice site where I couldn't pick my own levels. Personally I would try ordering juice somewhere else, but maybe there's some other ECFer that has experience with Ms T. How are you supposed to know if you're having a reaction to PG if they won't tell you what you're putting in your own body?

There are a lot that don't let you pick out the ratio-- Halo, Backwoods Brew, Vapor Station, nhaler, and many more. Some of the top vendors IMO. They will all tell you what the ratio is I'm sure but you don't have the option to select the ratio.

Yeah, I wouldn't be weirded out at all if they didn't let me pick it. I was just saying it's been pretty common in my limited experience. I totally would find it weird if they refused to tell me what ratio it is at all. I'm not sure why they wouldn't want to give you that info, maybe they think it's like their KFC secret spice or something. But I would want to know personally, just so I wouldn't put something too thick in my cartos.

From Ms. T's Bakery website: All E-Juices are created with Ms T's special proprietary mix of VG and PG. The exact ratio will not be disclosed to the public, but it does contain more VG than PG. Ms T does not accomodate requests for custom VG/PG mixtures.

VG could be your problem, or your lungs can still be clearing themselves out. I stopped smoking over four months ago. Since my lugs have cleared out I have had a little trouble with allergies and a round with a little fluid on the lungs. If I use heavier amounts of VG I have a simular problem. I generally use from 65 to 80 pg and 35 to 20 vg and don't have any problems then. If I use 50/50 pg/vg then things get a little tight. But you should goahead and get a check-up and make sure you are not getting a little pneumonia. IMHO!

Could it be the flavoring? I just threw out some caramel that made my lungs hurt after only about .25 ml. I've had no issues at all with pg or vg so the only thing I can figure is the flavoring. A coworker had this same issue. He could vape flavor x from vender y with no problems but flavor z from the same vendor hurt. I use mostly diy liquids now and I know for sure that too much flavoring can cause these issues for me. Albino llama nuts, which is at least 30% flavoring did this to me bad, especially when my battery started getting low.

That certain flavorings or acids might cause such symptoms is certainly possible; even when it is known to be so, there is still a chance that t is not the flavoring per se, but the amount of ethanol - above a certain level it is feasible that the ethanol vapor combusts and burns the other constituents creating the irritants; these ignitions would be minute but I don't see why they could not occur.
