Check out this blatant commercial propaganda:

How smoking can hide the symptoms of gum disease - Telegraph

An entire page based on a commercial agenda by the Telegraph, with a poorly masked attempt to make money by pushing a product and attacking ecigs to make even more money. The usual collection of lies, blatant lies, and Public Health-style rubbish.

Quitting smoking causes the gums to bleed for some, it is a well-known and widely-reported result. Assigning that effect to nicotine has zero evidence to support it. The gums eventually recover, no matter what else is done or not done, or consumed or not consumed - the body eventually repairs the damage from smoke.

Poor dental hygiene causes tooth decay, not nicotine.

This may be well known but I never heard it before. I had bleeding gums when I brushed my teeth, starting a few weeks after I quit smoking. I was quite worried it might be a side effect of vaping. I just figured I would live with it, there was no way I would have considered giving up vaping since I know I would have started smoking again. After about 3 weeks it stopped and it never happened since. So thanks for putting this information out.

thanks for the post.
i remember back in the day when all this ant-smoking and chewing
campaign started they would show all these pictures of all these poor
souls that had used chewing tobacco and the harm it caused.
some how to me they all appeared to perhaps being of Appalachian decent.
it turns out they were. they made or doctored their own chew and,
without any dental care or knowledge of proper dental hygiene the
results were what one would expect.
of course this article fails to mention in an otherwise healthy person
bleeding gums is the exception not the rule.

Certainly does read like a Colgate ad....

And while nicotine is a vaso-constrictor, most of the "damage" is from the rest of burned plant matter. Or why has my dental hygenist commented on how my gums are better now that I've quit smoking? (Not to mention a lot less staining from the tar, significantly absent in vaping!)

As a 2-3 PAD smoker, I was shocked by how bad my gums were bleeding after I cut back from my former habit to 6 cigarettes a day in the first 6 months. I read about the issue and was reassured by my dentist that it was normal. I have periodontal issues from 43 years of smoking plus age (lots of non-smokers have the same problems), but everything's doing well since I quit.
