hmmm, I am skeptical, rather new to DIY myself, but in my years of looking briefly into DIY I've never seen anything of which you speak… I could very much be wrong and would love to be corrected, for my own use.

I actually did start out with a flavor that is rather neutral, like a soothing flavor to contrast with the stronger juice flavors I vape (mostly store bought)… something that reminded me of ie Backwoods Brew "Malty"… that type of thing.
It is Coconut…

I found that VZ super concentrate was a good one, and to that I added VZ SC cream… I still keep this on hand in large amount and vape it solo, or as a base to a number of other flavors… it tends to mellow out other flavors, and for a chain vaper, when you throat and taste buds get parched, a good soother of sorts.

I'm pretty new to DIY, but I recommend Malt from Nature's Flavors. I've taken to adding a few drops of this to almost all of my mixes - makes everything smoother and fuller and seems to give them a more "finished" quality. I've also used it to salvage a mass-produced tobacco juice that I got as a freebie from a hardware vendor and that I never would have vaped otherwise.

In a sense, yes. They aren't necessarily the "mother" bases, but there are 5 distinct types of flavors.

1. Tobacco
2. Bakery/Dessert/Candy
3. Coffee/Tea
4. Fruit
5. Specialty/Other (think floral, herbal, alcoholic drink, etc.)

Typically, the great juices that vendors become famous for have a blend of 2 or more types of juices. An example would be Vermillion River's KY Blend No. 7. Tobacco base(1) with vanilla, caramel, nut(2), and whiskey(5).

That's my take on it. :2c:

John333 got the idea I was going for.
I did go shopping for the DIY supplies on my own since this thread went a long time w/o any replies. I went light on my core flavors until I read more info like what John posted. I had bought 12 e-liquids from fast tech based on new flavors for me to try. I went for the cheapest since I just wanted to get an idea of what floral, herbal and other flavors taste like on their own when vaped. I have been mixing my ready made juices just to taste what happens.

A couple of drops of strong cinnamon into root beer was very nice. A few more drops in and I ruined it. That is two flavors I normally wouldn't put together.
My new core flavors are:
Bavarian Cream (I have seen this used so many times in recipes)
Malt (I almost ordered some, now I'm sad)
Vanilla (A tricky one as there are many versions, I went sweet)
caramels (Not one I gave too much thought about until now)
nuts (I have almond something coming from fast tech, but another one I'll be checking out)
tobaccos (This always reminds me of smoking, until I thought about tobacco as a real flavor)
EM ( I saw this and almost ordered some. I'm still researching which sweetener to use)

So what am I starting with?

Smooth Flavor Concentrate (TFA
Koolada 10% PG Flavor (TFA)
Cinnamon Spice Flavor (TFA)
Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Flavor (TFA)

Black Cherry Flavor (TFA)
Juicy Peach Flavor (TFA)
Watermelon Flavor Concentrate (LA)
Grape Juice Flavor Concentrate (TFA)
Root Beer Flavor Concentrate (TFA)

I want to start simple and get the basics down before I really get creative towards my signature juice.

Oh and I did read spaceballsrules' blogs on DIY. I'm will keep on doing research for the rest of my life.

I just started diy not too long ago. I think the primary flavors might vary? Depending on what type of flavors you like. Fruits, drinks, desserts etc..

So far I find myself using sweetener, sweet cream, caramel or caramel cream, vanilla in quite a few mixes I made.

I see smooth in many recipes that interest me. But I have yet to figure out what it does.

I haven't been the biggest fan of tobacco but found that I enjoyed ry4 with a dash of hazelnut and a few drops of butterscotch. I can see using a small amount of hazelnut in other recipes.

You are correct Hoosier, it wasn't spaceballsrules' blog I was reading. I was all over this site last night link hopping. I can't find what I was reading. Sorry for my mistake.

It's spaceballsrules' avater has been burned into my memory so deep I'll be crediting him with everything. I may even have nightmares.

Like I said above, I was reading allot about DIY'ing.

I made one more buy at Wizard Labs today to better round out my start up:
Ethyl Maltol 10% PG Solution (TFA)
Red Oak Flavor Concentrate (TFA)( Might be better then the Hickory that I had picked first. I love smoke flavor)
Sour - Flavor Concentrate (TFA)
Wintergreen Flavor Concentrate (TFA) (Suppose to be good with Root Beer among other flavors)
Sea Buckthorn - Flavor Concentrate (TFA) (I had to Google this one, it's the wild card pick)
Mtype Premium Tobacco Flavor (TFA)
Double Chocolate Clear Flavor (TFA)

I wanted something other then the fruit group to vape. Bakery still freaks me out as a flavor to vape.

Thanks again everyone(including spaceballsrules...omg...that pic...accck!), for helping me get started with flavors.
