I've been smoking 2+ packs per day for more than 20 years, smoking overall for more than 30 years.

My boyfriend and I just went to a 723 shop yesterday and bought a tank and a mod each. We tried e-cigs a couple of years ago and they just didn't cut it.

He inhales in his mouth and is having no trouble.

I inhale straight to my lungs and am hating this. I cough every friggin' time. So much so that I don't want to do this anymore and had him get me cigs on the way home.

I have put the wattage down to 10. Dialed down the flow on the Delta II tank. No luck.

I tried to do the mouth thing like he does, but I can't do it. And I cannot do anything with my nose, never have been able to (chronic sinus problems and sinus surgery may be the culprit).

Any ideas?

I had similar issues when I started too. It was always worse when I first woke up but would get easier as the day went. A few friends of mine reported no issues like that. If it's only been a day unfortunately all I can really advise is to do what you're doing, dial it back as far as you can and take gentle hits off it until you get used to it. I started on an Evod, and the Delta II looks like a way more serious tank than that, I imagine it will take a few days to get used to doing it.

Learning curve, nic level in your juice, and thats about it. I'm lung hitter from day 1 of each, and vapor just hits you differently and you have to get used to it. With mouth hits, only thing I can think of is if your setup is too powerful, you'll be burning your wick since your mouth can't possibly hold enough vapor in, thus ruining some flavor.

I get this problem too, but gets easier Later on. Only happens when I wake up. Sometimes get a burning sensation, but vaping appears to be dehydrating thanks to the vg/pg and drinking a lot of fluid does the trick for that. I been doing this for two weeks now. I use 12MG liquid with a Launcher V2 and an Atlantis aspire. I haven't touched a cigarette in the same time frame. Felt a little more energetic and able to actually be satisfied with water. Hooray.

First off, what is the nic level and the PG/VG ratio of your juice?

I picked a Delta II yesterday and am loving it. I've dropped my nic down to 6 mg and use high VG juice (25/75 or 20/80 pg/vg). Too high a nic level can cause you to cough, or it might be too much PG in the juice. I'm a mouth to lung vaper, normally, but can do direct lung with the Delta II (as well as my RDA).

1. If you are doing straight lung hits then you need a tank that provides a lot more air. You'll either need a tank with adjustable airflow and run it wide open, or you'll need a subohming tank like the Aspire Atlantis or Kanger Subtank.

2. You'll need a liquid mixture that has very little Propylene Glycol in it. Propylene Glycol, or PG, is what give you that "throat hit", the feeling in the back of your throat that lets you know you're inhaling more than air. The more PG, the stronger the sensation, and the more likely you are to cough.

3. You'll want to run a lower nicotine level for doing straight lung hits. Like PG, the nicotine itself gives you a throat hit. You'll probably want something in the 6mg range, maybe a little higher, but definitely nothing higher than 12mg if you're doing straight lung hits.

Those three things should go a long way towards making your vaping style more pleasant for you.

However, be aware that you're going to cough for a while no matter what you do. It's part of the process of cleaning up and healing your lungs. The vapor is going to help break up the tar and gunk that's built up which will make you cough to get it out, and then you're damaged lung tissue will be exposed to the vapor. Many of us long term smokers have gone through the coughing fits, especially in the morning when you first wake up, and spitting out stuff that looks like it came from a car engine. It's just part of the healing process and it gets better as you heal.

If you are new to vaping, direct lung inhales using a Delta, even at 10 watts is going to make you cough.

I don't know the Delta II (to use) but if it's similar to Atlantis and Subtank, even I can't mouth inhale with those sorts of tanks.

My serious recommendation is to go back to the shop and get a tank that makes it easier to draw into your mouth and use that whilst you get used to the technique.

... almost anything will do it... a basic BVC even. :)

Hey there, I know the issues you're facing. I used to smoke a pack or 2 a day, then went to smokeless tobacco, then went back to cigs, and then found heaven in vaping. I personally have never had any issues, I straight lung inhale, I find that mouth-to-lung with an e-cig or vape device is insufficient. But, I have recently converted my father over to vaping, he's been smoking 2 packs of cigs a day for over 50 years. At first, he was like you, he couldn't do anything without hacking his lung up, and he was getting frustrated. He eventually went back to cigs.

is doctor told him it had something to do with coating in your throat and how it's been damaged from smoking all these years and how the PG/VG in the ejuice was agitating it. This makes a tad bit of sense, but I personally always felt like it had to do with PG. PG is harsh and causes a lot of throat hit, in addition to Nic levels of course. I purchased a Joyetech Ego-one for my father and got him a 70/30 vg/pg blend tobacco juice. He did cough at first, but he stuck at it, and it gradually got better, after about a week of sticking with the higher VG blend, he hasn't touched a cigarette.

So my advice to you is go with lower wattage and a slightly higher VG blend. Be sure not to go too high on the VG though as it won't wick properly on some of the carto's out there. I highly recommend the ego-one, it's a fantastic little device and handles high VG blends well.

Good luck!:)
