Nice job uncle. I never saw it done that way.I guess I just learned differently. That way looks like the hoity-toity way to do it. I was taught by an old Cuban guy that was my neighbor in Miami.I just get down and dirty with it. Like I said in my post above If you don't have mango juice running down your elbows you aint doin it right. What the heck is a stone? As far as I know it is a seed. Thanks for the video now I know how the other half lives. No matter how you do it mangos are awesome!!!

Actually - started eating Mangos in the 60's and couldn't agree with you more about the "down & dirty" and dripping off your chin - down your arms -just all over you - sticky - sweet - SO GOOD ! ! ! & THE BEST ! ! ! :D

However, not the way to do it when you are making something from/with mangos for everyone to have - Or more importantly, I don't think "My" friends would like to eat the mangos after I got done getting the "Meat" off pit/stone that way . . .

Congrats Lettucehead!!!! Ok, now I see more about how this works. Very kewl.

Never happened - Always worked for "Me" . . . :D

AND - Truthfully you do get "ALL" The Meat off the Mango pit . . .

I would never have given this a second thought if you hadn't said you use it and it works. I'm do top notch's version....knife down both sides. I've done the the thing where you criss-cross slice while still in the peel then open it up and slice em off, but I'd rather just peel em and then chunk em up. But that thing does look nifty if it truly works.

Oh, and I've shyed away from trying mango juices, for fear of disappointment. Most mango flavored things just don't taste like mango. But........a mango juice from a man that used to eat em off the trees in Florida absolutely needs to be tried!!!

What I wanna know is........how come no one had mentioned the very last step in mango preperation. The standing over the sink, sucking all the juice/flesh off the pit/stone. That's when the juice really starts runnin down your arms!! lol All large seed fruits like that are called stone fruit. Peaches, nectarines, mangoes, etc. Probably cuz ya bite on other seeds, it's ok......ya ever bite down on that one, you'll think you bit into a stone!! lol

That's cool never heard of that. I stand corrected. The way I do it I'm not looking for pretty chunks of mango. I'm talking about taking slices off with your pocket knife. no cutting board, no bowl,or plate just straight from fruit to mouth. The best ones are the ones that fall off the tree. If you pick them they usually taste sappy unless you let them sit for a few days. I'm sort of spoiled because the ones I'm used to eating didn't go through all of the processing and weren't picked early so they don't ripen too early. If you can get one like that you will not be disappointed. Forgot to tell you it might be a good idea to be outside near a garden hose so you can clean up the mess!!!

Also - There is one other thing people should know, especially if this is the first time you are eating them - just as an FYI:

1) Mango's can and do effect your "Sugar" levels if you are a diabetic . . .

AND . . .

2) Mango's work VERY WELL to help You and YOUR BODY in many ways, especially to lose weight - so if this is your first time eating Mango(s) might I suggest you be near a bathroom soon - Just sayin' . . . ;)

Congrats lettucehead!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as mangos go, I am a champ at the messy mango eating! TopNotch, I am right there with you and the down and dirty method! However, I have been known to cut them up a little less messily if other people are around (or are going to be eating it). I live for mango season here in Miami. Stop by the stand on the side of the road and pick up 4 or 5 and go home. Then I could actually eat all of them for desert! I absolutely LOVE mangos!

Yeah I get selfish with my mango. I will share but most of the time it's better if I just bring an extra one out so someone else can enjoy it to.It sort of reminds me of sharing an apple when you just eat it instead of cut it up. I have had parties where I cut it up in little cubes and didn't make too much of a mess.:D When I lived down there I had almost every tropical fruit growing in my back yard. Mango, Avocado, Passion Fruit, Key Lime, Banana, Orange, and other more exotic fruits I can't remember the name of. My whole neighborhood was full of different fruit trees. I guess I took it or granted that you could be walking down the sidewalk and pick a fruit of your choice off the neighbors tree and enjoy.

never had the bathroom problem, but I am allergic to the blooms and the sap when it gets on my skin. The mango itself doesn't bother me.Talk about love/Hate relationship.;)

YouTube is a friend . . . .

Awesome thanks :)

One more thing - You could use one of these too . . .

You can find them here:

Thanks, those look very helpful. Would sure make getting the pit out easier.

Just had a thought. What happens if your seed doesn't fit or your mango is too big? Just sayin. Awesome gadget though.
I was thinking what if you had the seed oval turned the wrong way, but then again I guess if ya did that then you could just pull it off, turn and try again..

So far my favorite way (not my wife's favorite lol) is when I use my two-step process.

Step 1. Peel off mango skin
Step 2. Eat

My 9-month daughter loves mangoes like I do so me and her will kick back and I'll tear off little chunks for her. Unlike my wife, she doesn't mind me just tearing into the thing with that sweet juice going all over lol
