Wrestling with the router here. I set up her tablet with a static IP address. This makes it easy to put her tablet into lockdown mode at 10pm where it cuts off all access to the internet and is now effectively killing her marathon show watching. She woke up last night at 2;30 and decided to watch shows for hours. No more of that. My router puts her on lockdown at 10pm and removes the restriction at 7am.

My issue is now trying to give her as much freedom to explore 'safely'. Netflix enabled the mobile profiles but Google and android are behind the times and need to offer better options foe YouTube to block all content that is rated more than g. Which they don't have yet. Pain in my .... I would also like her to have a child's Facebook account but they haven't rolled it out yet. They have been testing functionality for over a year. Controls for a child account would be linked to the parents account so the parent could make changes, be the one to approve friends requests, etc. Wish they would hurry up with so Emma can talk to some of her relatives who are far away and still be monitored and also advance her vocabulary.

I just need to find the ports for Radio Disney so she can listen to music while she goes to asleep. (It provides her comfort as she doesn't like the dark)

not sure if you've ever seen this guy, Sean. he's a Xiangqi Master. it's fun, you know, in a "bore the heck out of most folks" kind of way

That's brilliant, Sam, thanks!

I feel your pain. I wish FB would hurry up with the parental account controls for my sister's sake... We never had any problems with her internet wise till I decided to be nice and get her a little netbook for last Xmas. As soon as she could browse out of sight, she was friending total strangers and the like... We've had the various internet safety talks a million times but her sense of fear re: strangers is just completely absent; she thinks everyone is a potential friend irl, so why not the internet too? I didn't want to freeze her FB account as that's how she talks to long distance relatives too, so the compromise we've come to is I log onto her FB several times a week at random and if I ever find anything amiss, she loses the laptop for a week. Not an ideal situation by any means, but since she used the FB account appropriately for years before the laptop, and it's her only means of communication with several family members, it feels unnecessarily punitive to take away FB entirely... and, as you say, it's done wonders for her reading and writing skills. Plus, my sister is 29, so she's *got* to learn this stuff at some point, and understand why it's important... it's two steps forward and one back most days, but that's better than nothing.

I can't take The chance, the Internet is my domain I'm this house which means I need to set it all up and be able to monitor her activity in an unobtrusive way so we know she is safe at all times when using it. These companies are being really dense though about rolling out better options. The tech is there for Facebook but they haven't rolled it out yet due to privacy concerns from my understanding. Sigh.

((((((DUSTY)))))) 2014 is going to be a much better year!! The angel cards affirm it. Hang in and hang on my friend!!! :)

Hi'ya darlin, As a matter of fact I am, getting ready to do another batch, I'm going to have to break into my Amber Bottles that I use for essential oils, I like the clear ones for the juices as I can see the liquid in them and watch for a color change as they age. As for lurking yup, this is just a very rough period for me and have no desire to let it bleed into the thread. You guys are the best! :toast:

Oh, I definitely wasn't suggesting that our way would be best in your situation - our way isn't best for *our* situation either! Just having a moan with you about how difficult it is to monitor unobtrusively. I could lock my sister's connection down like Ft. Knox if I really wanted to, but FB is the only place she's really gotten herself into trouble, so I don't want to do that... if she were any younger, though, that's probably exactly what I'd do, for her sake. It's really silly how many companies aren't considering the many situations in which limited access to their services would be appropriate... not just for children or (some) people with intellectual disabilities, but for the average person who'd like to be able to lock themselves out of their email when they're drunk, or lock themselves out of spending money when they know they're in a bad frame of mind, that kind of thing. There have been small steps in that direction but none of it is keeping pace with technology.

Oh I didn't mean it that way at all. I'm just frustrated with the situation as I am sure you are as well. Your situation may be what we have to suffice with but I am going to hold out a bit longer and will show her how to send emails to them, I have total control of her email account so it is a safe prospect. Maybe in a couple months FB will have it in place so that she can give it a whirl with big daddy watching over her. He he. Good to see you up and around. I missed your stories today. :) if I don't respond after this it is because I fell asleep. So if that happens good night and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow. :)

I figured I'd pop in and say Happy New Year.
I've been busy making juice. Go figure.

My wife, her 2 cousins and her son are all vaping. WOOHOO!
One cousin started last year but let his evod get grungy.
I fixed him up on Thanksgiving and he loves Hawk Sauce. My boy!
The other just got a kit at a B&M yesterday with my help.
He's amazed with MBV/FW Butterscotch and Peanut Butter. My boy!
The freeloader, I mean stepson loves MBV Peanut Butter & Strawberry. Go him!

I'm making a Slow Tech order for 2 1300mah twists for each of them, 2 for her son and a couple more for me.
I'd like to have a few egos, chargers & cases on hand.
I don't want my friends getting stuck paying B&M prices again.
Two 1300mah twists, 2 evods, 5 replacement coils, a charger and a large ego case for about $65 - WIN!
I'm still waiting on a Vamo5 & a 1300mah eGo twist I ordered on 12/12/13 - Go Singpost! You Rock! not.

MBV for all and to all a good night :vapor:
